Job summary

BMW TechWorks India Private Limited in Pune seeks an experienced BEV Underbody Vehicle Architecture/Integration lead. You will drive vehicle architecture, packaging and integration for BEV platforms from concept through SOP, coordinating with Battery, E-Powertrain, Body-in-White, Chassis and E/E teams to ensure robust, efficient designs.

The role requires 12+ years in automotive product development with BEV program delivery expertise, strong CATIA/PLM skills and a record of delivering multiple

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in mechanical, Automotive, Electrical, Mechatronics Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • 10–15 years of automotive product development experience with leadership in BEV architecture or complete-vehicle integration.
  • Proven track record delivering at least two complete vehicle programs from concept to SOP, including BEV passenger-car experience.

Responsibilities

  • Lead vehicle architecture, packaging and integration for BEV platforms from concept through SOP.
  • Own BEV vehicle layout and integration maturity across high-voltage battery, e-drive, charging, thermal, chassis and E/E.
  • Define battery envelope, mounting, protection zones, serviceability, ground clearance and underbody interfaces.
  • Act as technical bridge across Battery, E-Powertrain, Body-in-White, Chassis, Thermal, E/E, Charging, Styling, Safety and Manufacturing teams.
  • Govern DMU, clash/clearance analysis, tolerance concepts and geometric release readiness.
  • Drive architecture targets for range, efficiency, charging, mass, cost and usability.

What awaits you/ Job Profile
  • BEV Platform Leadership: Lead vehicle architecture, packaging and integration for dedicated or highly optimized battery-electric M1 passenger-car platforms, from concept through Start of Production (SOP).
  • End-to-End Delivery: Own the complete BEV vehicle layout and integration maturity, covering high-voltage battery, e-drive units, charging system, thermal system, chassis, body, E/E architecture and occupant package.
  • Battery and Underbody Integration: Define and converge battery envelope, mounting, protection zones, serviceability, ground clearance, wheelbase, underbody aerodynamics and structural interfaces.
  • Cross-Functional Convergence: Act as the technical bridge across Battery, E-Powertrain, Body-in-White, Chassis, Thermal, E/E, Charging, Styling, Safety, Ergonomics, Manufacturing and Homologation teams.
  • Digital Vehicle Integration: Govern complete-vehicle DMU, clash and clearance analysis, tolerance concepts, interface control, virtual build maturity and geometric release readiness.
  • BEV Attribute Integration: Drive balanced achievement of range, energy efficiency, charging performance, thermal robustness, mass, cost, crash safety, NVH, dynamics, package and customer usability targets.
  • Milestone and Risk Governance: Establish architecture deliverables, decision gates, integration issue resolution and risk burn-down, supporting an agile concept-to-customer development target.
  • Technical Leadership: Mentor vehicle integration engineers and promote model-based, simulation-led and data-driven engineering practices.
What should you bring along
  • Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in mechanical, Automotive, Electrical, Mechatronics Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Experience: Minimum 12 years in automotive product development, preferably including leadership responsibility for BEV passenger-car architecture or complete-vehicle integration.
  • Program Track Record: Demonstrated delivery of at least two complete vehicle programs from concept to SOP, with at least one battery-electric passenger-car program strongly preferred.
  • BEV Domain Understanding: Strong knowledge of dedicated EV and multi-energy platforms, battery packaging, e-drive installation, charging architecture, thermal integration and high-voltage safety interfaces.
  • M1 Passenger-Car Expertise: Practical understanding of European and global passenger-car customer, regulatory, crash, packaging and market requirements. Experience with a European or German OEM engineering environment is advantageous.
  • Digital Engineering: Advanced working capability in CATIA V5/V6 or 3DEXPERIENCE and Teamcenter or equivalent PLM, including contextual design and large-assembly management.
  • Leadership: Strong technical judgement, communication, negotiation and conflict-resolution skills, with the ability to align multiple engineering domains to a single vehicle architecture.
Must have technical skill
  • BEV Vehicle Architecture and Packaging: Expert capability in vehicle dimensions, hard points, wheelbase and track, occupant package, front and rear e-drive installation, battery envelope, charging hardware and underbody interfaces.
  • High-Voltage Battery Integration: Strong knowledge of pack mounting, structural load paths, crash protection, sealing, venting, thermal interfaces, electrical isolation, serviceability, tolerances and manufacturing installation.
  • E-Powertrain Integration: Strong experience integrating e-machines, gearboxes, inverters, high-voltage junction components, DC/DC converter, on-board charger and associated cooling and mounting systems.
  • Thermal and Energy Integration: Ability to converge battery, e-drive, cabin HVAC and heat-pump layouts while supporting range, charging, cold-weather and hot-weather performance targets.
  • Charging System Packaging: Experience with AC/DC charging interfaces, charge-port location, cable routing, communication hardware and customer-use considerations.
  • DMU and Geometric Assurance: Expert use of digital mock-up methods for clash detection, clearance, motion envelope, assembly feasibility, tolerance stack-up and interface validation.
  • Crash and Regulatory Integration: Working knowledge of UNECE/EU and relevant global requirements for M1 vehicles, including EV electrical safety, battery protection, crash zones, pedestrian protection, braking, lighting and EMC-related packaging constraints.
  • Vehicle-Level Target Setting: Proven ability to define and cascade mass, dimensions, range, efficiency, performance, charging, package, cost and integration targets using benchmarking and simulation evidence.
  • Architecture Governance: Proficiency in requirement allocation, interface control documents, architecture decision records, issue management, design reviews and milestone release criteria.
  • Tools: Expert CATIA V5/V6 or 3DEXPERIENCE capability; strong familiarity with PLM, requirements management, DMU and CAE collaboration workflows.
Good to have Technical skills
  • Model-Based Systems Engineering: Familiarity with system architecture modelling, requirements traceability and cross-domain interface management.
  • EV Simulation Literacy: Ability to interpret range, energy consumption, thermal, performance, charging, durability, crash and NVH simulation results for architecture decisions.
  • Battery Technology Awareness: Understanding of cell-to-pack or cell-to-body concepts, battery chemistries, pack architectures and technology-readiness trade-offs.
  • 800 V and Fast-Charging Architectures: Exposure to high-voltage architectures, charging curves, thermal limitations and component integration implications.
  • Manufacturing and Service Feasibility: Knowledge of battery marriage, e-drive installation, end-of-line testing, high-voltage commissioning, repair access and design for assembly/service.
  • Weight, Cost and Sustainability: Experience with value engineering, mass optimization, modularity, commonality, recycled materials and battery circularity considerations.
  • Agile Vehicle Development: Experience with rapid concept loops, front-loaded virtual validation, integrated product teams and frequent architecture decision gates.
