Job summary

SBM Offshore invites a seasoned Piping Material Engineer to join our offshore Oil & Gas team in India. You will evaluate material specifications, support procurement, and ensure compliance with global codes and standards.

The role requires strong knowledge of ASME B31.3/B31.4/B31.8, API, ASTM, and effective coordination with multi-national suppliers. You will contribute to piping MTO, material selections, and bid evaluations to support safe, reliable offshore facilities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor/Master of Technology – Mechanical.
• 5–10 years of offshore Oil & Gas experience with material specifications & material selection.
• Knowledge of ASME B31.3/B31.4/B31.8, ASTM, API, BS, MSS SP, NACE.
• Effective team player with multicultural clients and good communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Perform pipe wall thickness calculations per ASME B31.3/B31.4/B31.8 codes.
• Prepare/Review piping material specifications and data sheets for valves and SP items.
• Prepare material requisitions for piping bulks, manual valves, and related items.
• Perform technical bid evaluations and raise TQs to vendors.
• Plan assigned work with clear design intent in line with procedures and checklists.
• Coordinate with discipline leads and peers to resolve issues and share progress.
• Understand various valve types and testing requirements for piping components.
• Perform procurement engineering within project timelines, coordinating with vendors and subcontractors.

• Perform Pipe wall thickness calculation in accordance with ASME B31.3 / B31.4 and B31.8 codes and standards, and regulations.

• Prepare/Review piping material specification, Valve material specifications, Specialty item Datasheets, Piping Bulk MTO, and Manual valve MTO.

• Prepare Material Requisitions for Piping Bulks, Manual Valves, and SP Items.

• Perform Technical Bid Evaluations and raise TQ’s to Vendors.

• Properly plan the assigned work and ensure the engineering documents in a manner that the design intent can be interpreted correctly and are in line with work procedures and checklists

• Proactively interface with Discipline Lead and peers for resolving issues, and sharing information and progress.

• Thorough understanding of functioning and requirements of various types of valves.

• Fully Conversant with testing requirements for different piping components and Manual Valves.

• Perform Procurement Engineering within the stipulated time frame of the project. Coordinate with vendors, subcontractors, third-party consultants, etc. to ensure timely review of documents and that comments are made with the required quality level.

REQUIREMENTS

• Bachelor/Master of Technology – Mechanical
• 5-10 years of relevant experience in the offshore Oil & Gas industry with specific experience in Material Specifications & Material Selection for Offshore Oil and Gas facilities – Wellhead platforms, Fixed Process Platforms, FPSO topsides modules & Turret Mooring systems.
• In-depth knowledge of international codes and standards like ASME B 31.3 / B31.4 / B31.8, ASTM, API, BS, MSS SP, NACE.
• Should be an effective Team player, capable of working with Multi-National Clients, and possess Good communication skills.
