Job summary

Changepond Technologies Limited in Chennai seeks an experienced Backup Administration professional to manage Veritas NetBackup environments, Dell EMC backup platforms, and related infrastructure.

You will monitor backups, perform restores, design retention strategies, automate reporting with PowerShell/Python, and ensure ISO/SOC/GDPR compliance through documentation and ITSM processes.

Qualifications

• Expertise in Veritas NetBackup (8.x/9.x/10.x).

• VMware/Hyper-V integration knowledge.
• Cloud backup experience (Azure/AWS).

Responsibilities

• Manage and administer Veritas NetBackup environments (master/media servers, storage units, policies).
• Operate Dell EMC backup platforms (Networker, Avamar, Data Domain).
• Monitor daily backups, resolve failures and meet SLA.
• Perform RCA for failures and implement corrective measures.
• Execute file/VM/application/database restores; validate integrity.
• Administer backup appliances, tape libraries, VTLs and cloud endpoints.
• Define backup policies, schedules, retention, and DR/BCP operations.
• Develop automation scripts for reporting and health checks.
• Maintain runbooks, topology diagrams, SOPs; ensure ISO/SOC/GDPR compliance.
• Handle P1/P2 incidents; document in ITSM tools; drive permanent fixes.
• Raise/change backup changes with risk/rollback plans.

Job description

Backup Administration

• Manage and administer Veritas NetBackup environments (master servers, media servers, storage units, policies).
• Operate Dell EMC backup platforms such as Networker, Avamar, and Data Domain.
• Monitor daily backup jobs, resolve failures, and ensure SLA adherence.
• Perform RCA for job failures and implement corrective/preventive measures.

Restore Recovery Operations

• Execute file-level, VM-level, application-level, and database-level restores.
• Validate restore integrity and coordinate with Windows, Linux, DB, and application teams.

Infrastructure Management

• Administer backup appliances, tape libraries, VTLs, and cloud backup endpoints.
• Perform patching, upgrades, and lifecycle management of backup infrastructure.
• Optimize performance, throughput, and storage consumption.

Backup Design Implementation

• Define and enhance backup policies, schedules, and retention strategies.
• Support DR and BCP backup operations.
• Assist in backup migration or upgrade projects.

Automation Reporting

• Develop PowerShell/Python automation scripts for reporting and health checks.
• Generate daily/weekly/monthly backup performance and compliance reports.

Documentation Compliance

• Maintain runbooks, backup topology diagrams, SOPs, and incident/resolution notes.
• Ensure compliance with ISO, SOC, GDPR, and internal audit requirements.

ITSM Process Responsibilities

• Handle P1/P2 backup incidents and lead technical bridges when required.
• Document incidents clearly in ITSM tools (ServiceNow / Remedy / ManageEngine).
• Perform detailed RCA for problem records and drive permanent fixes.
• Create and implement change requests with risk/impact/rollback plans.
