Backend Software Engineer, AI Platform

Job summary

Jobtailor is seeking an experienced backend engineer to design and operate highly available authentication and API services in a scalable, AI-driven environment. You will maintain critical databases and ensure real-time inferencing for downstream AI models while managing high-volume streaming data pipelines.

The role requires building production systems capable of handling 1,000+ RPS with strong uptime guarantees, plus leadership to guide a team and decompose complex problems.

Qualifications

• Expertise in one or more systems/high-level programming languages, such as Python, Go, Java, or C++, and eagerness to learn more
• Experience running scalable systems handling thousands of RPS and reliable systems with three-nines availability
• Experience developing complex software systems scaling to substantial data volumes or millions of users, with production-quality deployment, monitoring, and reliability
• Experience with large-scale distributed storage and database systems, SQL or NoSQL, such as MySQL or Cassandra
• Experience building Agentic AI systems at scale, including semantic ingestion, summarization, querying at scale, and orchestrating hundreds of parallel agents
• Ability to decompose complex business problems and lead a team in solving them
• Experience building and maintaining large-scale and/or real-time complex data-processing pipelines using Kafka, Hadoop, Hive, Storm, or Zookeeper
• 5+ years of experience
• Required professional backend development experience after degree, excluding internships
• Required experience building or operating a production system handling 1,000+ RPS sustained
• Required experience owning or being on-call for a system with a 99.9%+ uptime SLA
• Required experience building a production system orchestrating multiple AI agents in parallel
