About the Role
We are looking for a talented Backend Engineer with strong expertise in Python and cloud-native application development to join our Product Engineering team.
The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience building APIs and backend services using Python, FastAPI and/or Flask, along with strong knowledge of PostgreSQL and AWS.
You will work on highly scalable and distributed systems, solve complex engineering problems, optimize existing services, and contribute to building reliable cloud-native products. This role is ideal for engineers who enjoy taking ownership, working independently, and building systems that operate reliably at scale.
What You'll Do
- Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services using Python.
- Build high-quality APIs and backend applications using FastAPI, Flask, or similar frameworks.
- Design robust API contracts, validation, error handling, and service integrations.
- Develop efficient database solutions using PostgreSQL.
- Design and optimize database schemas, SQL queries, indexes, and data-access patterns.
- Analyze and improve application and database performance.
- Develop services capable of operating reliably within distributed and scalable system architectures.
- Work with asynchronous processing, event-driven workflows, background jobs, and distributed workloads.
- Design and develop cloud-native solutions using AWS services such as ECS, Lambda, DynamoDB, RDS, SQS, and API Gateway.
- Apply best practices around scalability, availability, reliability, security, observability, and cost optimization.
- Use Terraform / Infrastructure as Code to manage cloud infrastructure.
- Work with CI/CD pipelines and modern software delivery practices.
- Troubleshoot complex technical and production issues and perform root-cause analysis.
- Participate in system design and architectural discussions.
- Write clean, modular, reusable, testable, and maintainable code.
- Develop unit and integration tests to ensure reliability and maintainability.
- Participate in code reviews and contribute to engineering standards.
- Collaborate with Frontend, QA, Product, DevOps, and other engineering teams.
- Independently take ownership of complex technical problems from analysis through implementation and delivery.
- Use AI-assisted development tools such as Cursor and GitHub Copilot to improve development efficiency, testing, debugging, refactoring, and documentation.
What We're Looking For
- 3-8 years of professional experience in backend/software engineering.
- Strong programming experience with Python.
- Hands-on experience with FastAPI and/or Flask.
- Good understanding of Pydantic and data validation/modeling.
- Strong experience with PostgreSQL and SQL.
- Experience designing efficient database schemas and optimizing SQL queries.
- Hands-on experience with AWS cloud services.
- Experience with one or more of ECS, Lambda, DynamoDB, RDS, SQS, API Gateway.
- Understanding of distributed systems and scalable application architectures.
- Experience with Terraform or Infrastructure as Code.
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and automated software delivery.
- Strong understanding of REST API design and backend architecture.
- Experience with Git and modern software development practices.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Good communication and collaboration skills.
Good to Have
- Experience with Generative AI, LLMs, AI Agents, AI/ML, or AI-powered applications.
- Experience integrating AI capabilities into backend systems.
- Knowledge of event-driven and asynchronous architectures.
- Experience with Docker and containerized applications.
- Experience with application observability, monitoring, logging, and distributed tracing.
- Experience working with high-volume SaaS or enterprise applications.
- Practical experience using Cursor, GitHub Copilot, or similar AI development tools.
