Job summary

Proficiency in Java/Go/Python/Node.js, hands‑on AWS API Gateway and MySQL work, and strong CI/CD practices are required. This role offers ownership, ESOPs, and a collaborative engineering culture.

Qualifications

Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced Backend API Developer to join our tech team in Chennai. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in backend development, with hands‑on experience building, maintaining, and scaling high‑performance microservices and APIs that are secure, reliable, and optimized for performance.

You will be responsible for developing RESTful APIs and microservices that power various services across CashKaro's platform, ensuring seamless integration and data flow across systems.

We are open on language — Java, Go, Python, or Node.js — what matters most is strong, demonstrated microservices experience, along with hands‑on work on AWS API Gateway and MySQL.

Key Responsibilities

Design and Develop Microservices and APIs

• Develop and maintain high‑quality RESTful APIs and microservices, focusing on performance, scalability, and security.
• Collaborate with frontend and backend teams to integrate APIs with user‑facing applications and backend services.

Build and Maintain Backend Services

• Write clean, maintainable, and efficient code across your chosen stack (Java, Go, Python, or Node.js).
• Collaborate with frontend developers to integrate user‑facing elements with server‑side logic.

Optimize API Performance

• Ensure APIs are optimized for speed and efficiency, capable of handling high traffic volumes with low latency.
• Implement caching strategies and query optimization to improve response times.
• Configure and manage routing, authentication, and rate limiting through AWS API Gateway.
• Ensure gateway‑level security and observability across all exposed services.

Ensure API Security

• Implement robust security measures such as OAuth, JWT, and proper authentication and authorization protocols to protect sensitive data.
• Regularly audit APIs for potential security vulnerabilities and address them proactively.

Collaborate with Cross-Functional Teams

• Work closely with product managers, frontend developers, and other stakeholders to deliver new features and improvements.
• Participate in code reviews, testing, and debugging processes to maintain high code quality.

Monitor, Debug, and Troubleshoot

• Use monitoring tools to track API and service performance and health, identifying and resolving issues promptly.
• Debug and troubleshoot production issues to maintain smooth operations.
• Identify bottlenecks and bugs in the application layer and devise effective solutions.

Must‑Have Skills

Strong, Demonstrated Microservices Experience

• Should have been building and running production microservices for the last 5 years minimum.
• Should be able to showcase strong microservices‑driven projects in Java, Go, Python, or Node.js.

Hands‑On Experience with AWS API Gateway

• Should have configured and managed APIs through AWS API Gateway in production.
• Should understand routing, authentication, and rate limiting at the gateway level.

API Security Best Practices

• Should have a strong understanding of OAuth2 and JWT and how to implement the same when building APIs.
• Should be able to talk about role‑based access control.
• Should have a strong understanding of input validation to prevent SQL injection, XSS, etc.
• Rate limiting and throttling — should be able to demonstrate these in their current work.

Proficiency in MySQL and SQL Performance Optimization

• Must be extremely strong in MySQL and SQL.
• Must be extremely strong in query optimization, building for scale, and managing data integrity.

Experience with CI/CD

• Hands‑on experience with continuous integration and deployment pipelines.

Strict Adherence to Coding Standards

• Should have a strong process for adherence to coding standards.
