Job summary

Molb India in Chennai seeks an experienced exterior design specialist to lead styling convergence and ensure Class A surfaces meet OEM standards. You will collaborate with styling studios, engineering teams, and manufacturing to resolve packaging, surface quality, and integration challenges.

The role requires 8-10+ years in automotive design with CATIA, Autodesk Alias, and Class A surface modelling expertise, and a strong track record in design-to-engineering convergence for production intents.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Lead exterior styling convergence activities aligning design with architecture and engineering requirements.
• Collaborate with styling studios and cross-functional teams to resolve styling, packaging, and integration challenges.
• Drive design reviews and convergence meetings to hit design targets and milestones.
• Ensure styling integrity throughout development without compromising engineering feasibility.
• Ensure Class A models meet OEM standards, design specs, and downstream requirements.
• Conduct digital mock-up reviews to assess surface quality, packaging, and feasibility.
• Identify and resolve surface quality issues including highlight distortion and gaps.
• Act as the interface between styling studios, vehicle architecture, product engineering, manufacturing and quality teams.
• Coordinate design activities, track deliverables, manage issues, and support program milestones.
• Communicate feasibility, risks, and proposed solutions to OEM stakeholders.
• Ensure timely delivery of accurate and validated 3D data per project schedules.
• Proactively identify design risks and drive resolution to minimize late-stage changes.
• Provide guidance in Class A surfacing, Alias modelling, and styling convergence.
• Establish and maintain modelling practices and data governance.
• Mentor team members and drive continuous improvement in quality and execution.

• Lead exterior styling convergence activities, aligning design intent with vehicle architecture and engineering requirements.
• Collaborate with styling studios and cross-functional engineering teams to resolve styling, packaging, and integration challenges.
• Drive design reviews and convergence meetings to achieve agreed design targets and design milestones.
• Ensure styling integrity is maintained throughout the development process without compromising engineering feasibility.
• Ensure Class A models meet OEM standards, design specifications, and downstream engineering requirements.
• Conduct digital mock-up reviews to assess surface quality, component integration, packaging, and design feasibility.
• Identify and resolve surface quality concerns, including highlight distortion, surface waviness, parting-line inconsistencies, and fit-and-finish issues.
• Act as the key interface between styling studios, vehicle architecture, product engineering, manufacturing, and quality teams.
• Coordinate design activities, track deliverables, manage technical issues, and support critical program milestones.
• Communicate design feasibility, engineering risks, and proposed solutions effectively to OEM stakeholders.
• Ensure timely delivery of accurate and validated 3D design data in accordance with project schedules.
• Proactively identify design risks and drive resolution to minimize late-stage changes and development delays.
• Provide technical guidance to designers and engineers in Class A surfacing, Alias modelling, and styling convergence.
• Establish and maintain consistent modelling practices, surface quality standards, and design data governance.
• Mentor team members and support continuous improvement in design quality, productivity, and engineering execution.

Preferred candidate profile

• 8-10+ years of experience in automotive design, styling convergence, or design and development.
• Strong hands-on expertise in CATIA, Autodesk Alias and Class A surface modelling.
• Proven experience in styling-to-engineering convergence and production intent exterior geometry development.
• Strong understanding of vehicle architecture, exterior component packaging, and geometric feasibility.
• Good knowledge of surface continuity, curvature analysis, highlight quality, gap and flush, and perceive quality.
• Understanding of automotive manufacturing processes, including stamping, injection moulding, tooling, and assembly constraints.
• Experience coordinating with global OEM styling studios and multidisciplinary engineering teams.
• Strong problem-solving, communication, stakeholder management, and technical decision-making skills.
