Job summary

EDAG Group is seeking an experienced automotive software QA/test engineer based in Maharashtra to design and execute exhaustive ECU software tests. You will cover diagnostics, network/communication, and security testing, validating CAN, CAN FD, Automotive Ethernet, and FlexRay interactions.

The role requires hands-on experience with UDS/ISO 14229 services and root-cause analysis, plus strong test planning and documentation skills. Collaboration with global teams is essential.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Electrical/Electronics/Mechatronics/Automotive Engineering or related field.
  • Strong knowledge of UDS/ISO 14229 and diagnostic services.
  • Hands-on testing of automotive network (CAN/CAN FD, Automotive Ethernet, FlexRay).

Responsibilities

  • Plan, develop, execute, and maintain manual and automated test cases and scripts for automotive ECU software.
  • Perform end-to-end testing across Diagnostics, Network/Communication, and Security functionalities.
  • Test and validate diagnostic functions based on UDS/ISO 14229 and security/access controls.
  • Perform network testing and validation using CAN, CAN FD, Automotive Ethernet, and FlexRay; analyze traces and logs; perform root-cause analysis.
  • Validate ECU communications under varied operating conditions and ensure correct service behavior.
  • Conduct automotive security testing per ISO 21434 and identify weaknesses.
  • Develop negative/robustness/boundary/security test cases and execute them.
  • Lead integration/regression/system testing after software changes; document results in Jira/Confluence.
  • Mentor junior engineers and act as technical SPOC for testing areas.

Job description


  • Plan, develop, execute, and maintain manual and automated test cases, test scenarios, and test scripts for automotive ECU software.

  • Perform end-to-end testing covering Automotive Diagnostics, Network/Communication, and Security functionalities.

  • Test and validate automotive diagnostic functions based on UDS / ISO 14229, including Diagnostic Session Control, ECU Reset, Security Access, Read/Write Data, Routine Control, Communication Control, DTC services, and other relevant diagnostic services.

  • Perform network testing and validation using CAN, CAN FD, Automotive Ethernet, and FlexRay, including message, signal, communication, timing, routing, network management, and error-handling validation. Analyze CAN/CAN FD and Ethernet traces, diagnostic logs, ECU responses, and communication data to identify failures and perform root-cause analysis.

  • Validate communication between ECUs and ensure correct behavior of diagnostic and network services under different operating conditions.

  • Perform automotive security testing, including secure diagnostic functions, authentication/access mechanisms, Security Access, access-control behavior, communication security, and identification of potential security weaknesses. Apply relevant automotive cybersecurity concepts and ISO 21434 requirements during software testing and validation.

  • Develop and execute negative, robustness, boundary, error-handling, and security test cases to validate ECU behavior under abnormal and unexpected conditions.

  • Perform integration, regression, confirmation, and system-level testing following software changes and defect fixes.

  • Use tools such as Vector CANoe/CANalyzer, Dante and other relevant automotive diagnostic, network, and security testing tools.

  • Analyze test failures, identify potential root causes, and work with developers and system engineers to resolve software and communication issues.

  • Create and maintain detailed defect reports in Jira, KPM, or equivalent tools, including reproduction steps, logs, traces, expected/actual results, and technical analysis. Maintain test documentation, test reports, requirement traceability, and test evidence using tools such as Confluence or equivalent platforms.

  • Participate in technical discussions with internal stakeholders and global customer teams, including teams based in Germany.

  • Support troubleshooting of complex diagnostic, communication, and security-related issues and provide technical inputs to development teams.

  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of test strategies, test automation, test processes, methodologies, and quality standards.

  • Take ownership of assigned testing activities and ensure deliverables are completed within defined quality and project timelines.

  • For Senior-level candidates, provide technical guidance to other engineers, review test cases and test results, support task coordination, mentor team members, and act as a technical SPOC for assigned testing areas.

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent qualification in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, Mechatronics, Automotive Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.

  • 3-9 years of relevant experience in Automotive Software Testing, with hands-on experience in Automotive Diagnostics, Network Testing, and Security Testing.

  • Relevant experience in automotive software testing, preferably with strong experience in diagnostics, networking, and/or cybersecurity.

  • Strong hands-on knowledge of automotive ECU testing and validation.

  • Good knowledge of UDS / ISO 14229 and automotive diagnostic services. Strong understanding of CAN, CAN FD, Automotive Ethernet, and FlexRay communication.

  • Experience in automotive network testing, including message/signal validation, communication analysis, network management, timing, and error handling.

  • Experience in automotive security testing or good understanding of cybersecurity concepts, secure diagnostics, authentication, access control, and ISO 21434.

  • Experience with diagnostic, network, and security test case development and execution. Hands-on experience with Vector CANoe/CANalyzer or similar automotive testing tools.

  • Experience with Dante or equivalent test equipment/tools is an advantage. Strong experience in log and trace analysis, troubleshooting, and root-cause investigation.

  • Experience with Jira, KPM, Confluence, or equivalent test and defect management tools.

  • Experience working in a Volkswagen (VW) environment is an advantage. Knowledge of test automation and scripting is desirable.

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills.

  • Ability to work independently while effectively collaborating with cross-functional and international teams.
