Job description

Altera Digital Health is searching for a curious and detail-focused Associate System Engineer who enjoys understanding how technology works behind the scenes. This role sits at the intersection of IT infrastructure monitoring, operational reliability, and continuous improvement. The person stepping into this position will help keep critical monitoring platforms running smoothly while ensuring infrastructure systems remain visible, healthy, and well documented.

Modern healthcare technology relies on stable and well-monitored systems. Hospitals, clinicians, and healthcare staff depend on software platforms every day. Behind those platforms sits a complex web of servers, networks, and cloud services. Your work helps ensure those systems stay observable and manageable so teams can respond quickly when something changes.

This position focuses heavily on monitoring operations, infrastructure visibility, and operational reporting. The core platform used by the team is LogicMonitor, a widely adopted infrastructure monitoring solution. You'll learn how alerts are generated, how performance metrics are collected, and how infrastructure teams use monitoring insights to detect and solve issues early.

New engineers in this role quickly gain exposure to real-world infrastructure environments. Windows servers, network devices, and cloud services all generate monitoring signals. You'll work alongside senior engineers to interpret those signals and investigate alerts. Sometimes the issue is small. Other times it may point to deeper infrastructure behavior that needs attention.

What You’ll Be Working On

Daily work centers around maintaining reliable monitoring coverage and ensuring alerts are meaningful. When monitoring systems are noisy or poorly tuned, engineers waste time chasing false alarms. A key part of this job involves helping reduce that noise while improving system visibility.

You’ll also support operational and compliance reporting. Monitoring platforms store valuable data about infrastructure uptime, system performance, and alert activity. Extracting and analyzing that data helps internal teams demonstrate reliability and meet audit expectations.

Expect a collaborative environment. Infrastructure engineers, network specialists, application teams, and cloud administrators frequently work together. Monitoring sits right in the middle of all those systems, so communication and coordination become important parts of the job.

Core Responsibilities
  • Monitor infrastructure health using enterprise monitoring tools and respond to alerts generated across servers, networks, and cloud resources.
  • Perform first‑level troubleshooting when alerts appear, identifying potential causes related to performance, connectivity, or configuration.
  • Assist with onboarding new devices and services into monitoring systems to ensure complete infrastructure coverage.
  • Tune alerts and monitoring thresholds to reduce false positives and improve signal quality.
  • Extract and analyze monitoring data to support internal audits, operational reports, and compliance documentation.
  • Maintain monitoring documentation, operational runbooks, and process guidelines used by the infrastructure team.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to investigate recurring alerts and recommend monitoring improvements.
  • Validate monitoring data sources and ensure that metrics are being collected accurately from infrastructure systems.
  • Support operational readiness by confirming monitoring coverage for new systems and services before production deployment.
Technology Environment

The monitoring stack centers around LogicMonitor, which collects infrastructure metrics and generates operational alerts. Engineers working in this environment regularly review dashboards, performance graphs, and alert logs to understand system behavior.

You’ll also interact with Windows‑based servers, enterprise networking components, and cloud resources hosted in Microsoft Azure. Some tasks involve querying monitoring data using SQL‑based tools or working with visualization platforms such as Grafana.

That said, this role is designed for engineers who are still building experience. You are not expected to know every technology on day one. What matters more is a strong curiosity about how systems behave and a willingness to troubleshoot step by step.

Work Environment and Team Culture

Altera Digital Health builds software and digital platforms that support healthcare organizations around the world. The company’s mission revolves around connecting technology with patient care. Engineers here know their work contributes to systems used by real clinicians and care teams.

The infrastructure and operations teams value steady thinkers who approach problems methodically. When alerts appear, the goal is not panic. Instead, engineers investigate carefully, confirm the signal, and trace the issue to its root cause.

Documentation is also taken seriously. Reliable systems depend on clear operational knowledge. Runbooks, troubleshooting notes, and monitoring guidelines help teams respond quickly when something unusual occurs.

You’ll likely spend time reviewing monitoring dashboards, investigating alerts, working with senior engineers on troubleshooting, and updating operational documentation. Some days are quiet. Others are busy when systems generate unexpected signals.

And that’s part of the appeal. Monitoring engineers see the heartbeat of infrastructure. They notice trends early, spot anomalies, and help teams maintain stability across complex environments.

If you enjoy understanding how systems interact, analyzing technical signals, and gradually building expertise in infrastructure operations, this role offers a solid foundation for a long‑term career in platform engineering, cloud infrastructure, or site reliability.
