Job Summary
The Associate Manager / Manager / Sr. Manager – Engineering Design (EDRC) is responsible for leading end-to-end execution, planning, and governance of railway signalling design activities across projects, including ABS, MSDAC, and EI systems.
The role involves ownership of design deliverables, team leadership, client interface, and ensuring compliance with RDSO / Indian Railways / CORE standards, while driving quality, timelines, and efficient multidisciplinary coordination.
This is a leadership role requiring both technical expertise and team management capability, with accountability for delivery across multiple projects or design packages.
1. Design Leadership & Delivery Ownership
- Lead and oversee preparation and approval of signalling design deliverables, including:
- Signal Interlocking Plans (SIP)
- Table of Control (TOC)
- Signal Wiring / Relay Wiring Diagrams (SWR / SWRD)
- Route Control Charts / Tables (RCC / RCT)
- Ensure development and validation of detailed AutoCAD (2D) drawings:
- Route Plans, Cable Routing & Core Charts
- Location Box / REB / Equipment Layouts
- Control Tables, CTRs, and Interface Drawings
- Take ownership of complete design lifecycle from concept to As-Built stage
2. Planning & Project Control
- Plan design activities, allocate resources, and track progress across multiple projects
- Ensure adherence to project timelines, milestones, and client submission schedules
- Monitor design productivity, identify risks, and implement mitigation strategies
- Drive timely closure of TQs, RFIs, and design comments
3. Standards, Quality & Compliance
- Ensure all design outputs comply with:
- RDSO guidelines
- Indian Railways standards
- CORE / project-specific specifications
- Establish and enforce design quality checks, review mechanisms, and audit readiness
- Ensure proper revision control, documentation discipline, and traceability
- Lead internal and external design reviews, audits, and approvals
4. Multidisciplinary Coordination
- Drive coordination across:
- Signalling (S&T)
- Electrical (Power Supply / IPS / SCADA interfaces)
- Civil (foundations, trenching, cable routes)
- Act as a key interface between design, execution, and client teams
- Resolve interface issues and ensure seamless integration across disciplines
5. Client & Stakeholder Management
- Interface with clients, consultants, OEMs, and railway authorities for approvals
- Present design concepts, clarifications, and technical justifications
- Manage client expectations and ensure timely incorporation of feedback
- Support techno-commercial discussions where required
6. Team Leadership & Capability Building
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of Engineers and Sr. Engineers
- Review team outputs and ensure adherence to quality and timelines
- Identify skill gaps and drive training initiatives within EDRC
- Build a strong second line of leadership within the design team
7. Execution Support & T&C Interface
- Support resolution of site issues from a design perspective
- Ensure alignment between design intent and site execution
- Participate in design validation and final commissioning documentation
Technical Skills Required
- Strong expertise in railway signalling systems (EI / RRI / Panel / ABS / MSDAC)
- In-depth knowledge of:
- SIP, TOC, SWR, SWRD, RCC
- Cable plans, core charts, and interlocking principles
- Proficiency in AutoCAD (2D mandatory)
- Exposure to MicroStation or other design tools (added advantage)
- Strong understanding of railway standards and approval processes
- Leadership and team management capability
- Strong ownership and accountability for delivery
- Excellent planning and organizational skills
- High attention to detail and engineering accuracy
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making ability
- Effective stakeholder and client management skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects under tight timelines
Required Qualifications
- B.E / B.Tech in Electrical / Electronics & Communication
Experience
- 8–15 years in railway signalling design
- Proven experience in handling end-to-end design delivery and team leadership
