About The Team

The Accounting Department is responsible for ensuring accurate financial management across various functions, including Customer Payments Accounting, Cost and Margin Analysis, Vendor Set-Up and Maintenance, Expenses Payables, Invoice Processing and Capital Assets, and Inventory Accounting. This role involves maintaining and reconciling the General Ledger, ensuring the reporting of accurate balances of P&L and Balance Sheet, processing invoices, and supporting comprehensive Reporting and Analytics to guide business decisions. The department also plays a key role in transforming IT tools and systems to streamline accounting processes, improve data accuracy, and enhance overall efficiency, contributing to the company’s financial integrity and operational success.

I. Job Summary

The Associate – Accounting will be responsible for supporting day-to-day accounting operations, including inventory accounting, account reconciliations, bank reconciliations, invoice processing, journal entries, month-end close activities, and financial reporting. The role will focus on ensuring the accuracy, completeness, and timely processing of financial transactions in accordance with established accounting policies and procedures. The Associate will work closely with team members and cross-functional stakeholders to resolve accounting issues, support process improvements, and maintain accurate financial records. The individual should have a good working knowledge of accounting principles, US GAAP, and SOX controls, and should be able to support documentation and information requests from Internal and External Audit teams. Experience with GL accounting, balance sheet reconciliations, ERP systems such as Oracle, and MS Excel will be preferred.

II. Roles & Responsibilities
  • Daily Activities
  • Perform daily, weekly, and monthly reconciliations for sales, inventory, and cash accounts.
  • Ensure accurate and timely processing of financial data from locations and e-commerce platforms.
  • Process invoices ensuring timely payment to Vendors.
  • Validate and correct the discreapencies in Inventory
  • Identify and resolve discrepancies between system data and actual transactions
  • Month-End Close:
  • Support the month-end close process by preparing journal entries, account reconciliations, andbalance sheet reviews.
  • Ensure accuracy and compliance with GAAP and company policies.
  • Process Improvement:
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements within the accounting function and help implement new processes or systems that enhance efficiency and accuracy.
  • Compliance & Audit Support:
  • Ensure adherence to internal controls, company policies, and relevant accounting standards.
  • Assist with external and internal audits by preparing requested documentation and responding to audit queries.
Team Collaboration
  • Work closely with other members of the accounting and finance teams, as well as cross-functional departments such as retail operations, IT, and supply chain.
Specific Responsibilities
  • Prepare and review monthly balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Process and post month-end journal entries, ensuring completeness, accuracy, and compliance with accounting policies.
  • Perform bank reconciliations and investigate/resolve reconciling items to ensure ledger balances agree with external bank statements.
  • Manage and respond to Corporate mailbox, store inquiries, and stakeholder requests within defined service levels.
  • Support Internal and External Audits by providing timely documentation, explanations, and resolution of audit observations.
  • Ensure compliance with SOX controls, accounting policies, and internal control requirements.
  • Investigate aged reconciling items and drive timely resolution with business partners.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams including Treasury, Payroll, Store Operations, Finance, and IT to resolve accounting issues.
  • Assist in identifying process improvement opportunities and support automation and standardization initiatives.
  • Maintain process documentation, SOPs, and support knowledge transfer activities.
  • Manage the team's shared mailbox and ensure timely closure of requests and escalations.
Preferred Skills
  • Strong understanding of General Ledger Accounting and Balance Sheet Reconciliations.
  • Knowledge of Month-End Close processes and Journal Entries.
  • Understanding of SOX controls, Internal Controls, and Audit requirements.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.

Proficiency in ERP systems (Oracle, Arcs etc.) and Microsoft Excel

III. Years Of Experience
  • 2-3 years of experience in accounting, with at least 3years in retail accounting or a similar role.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and accounting principles.
  • Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., Open Text, People Soft/Oracle, Mainframe, POS Systems) and MS Excel (pivot tables, v-lookups, formulas etc.).
  • Experience with ERP systems and financial reporting tools.
  • Prior experience with retail accounting preferred not required.
IV. Education Qualification & Certifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field.
