The role demands a strong technical background in railway signalling systems, excellent project coordination skills, and a deep understanding of industry regulations such as EN 50126, EN 50128, and EN 50129 (SIL certification). The Assistant Project Manager ensures seamless collaboration between engineering teams, contractors, regulatory bodies, and stakeholders, contributing to the safe, efficient, and timely deployment of signalling solutions that enhance rail network reliability and capacity. This position is critical in advancing the digitalisation and automation of railway operations within the broader context of smart rail infrastructure.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate with design engineers, system integrators, and subcontractors to ensure timely delivery of signalling equipment and integration.
  • Monitor project progress against milestones, identifying risks and implementing mitigation strategies to maintain schedule adherence.
  • Prepare and review technical documentation, including interface specifications, system design reports, and test plans.
  • Facilitate coordination between internal teams and external stakeholders, including railway operators, infrastructure managers, and regulatory authorities.
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards, quality management systems (e.g., ISO 9001), and railway-specific regulations (e.g., ETCS, CTC, ATP).
  • Lead or support the execution of system acceptance testing (SAT), site commissioning, and handover activities.
  • Maintain accurate project records, change logs, and progress reports for internal and client reporting.
  • Participate in project meetings, risk assessments, and lessons-learned sessions to improve future project performance.
  • Assist in the preparation of tender documents, technical proposals, and contract management activities as required.
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Railway Systems, or a related technical discipline.
  • Minimum of 3 years of progressive experience in railway signalling project delivery, preferably in new build or modernisation projects.
  • Proven experience with railway signalling systems (e.g., ETCS Level 1/2, CBTC, interlockings, track circuits, signal control systems).
  • Familiarity with project management methodologies (e.g., PRINCE2, PMBOK) and tools (e.g., MS Project, Primavera P6).

  • Excellent communication, organisational, and problem-solving skills with the ability to work in cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings, system specifications, and interface requirements.
  • Willingness to travel to project sites and work in field environments as needed.
  • Certification in project management (e.g., PMP, PRINCE2) is highly desirable.
  • Knowledge of railway industry standards including EN 50126, EN 50128, EN 50129, and IEC 61508.
