Qualifications

  • 8 years of aviation experience in Part-145, MRO, airline engineering, or aviation technical environment.
  • 2–3 years of experience in Safety, Quality, Compliance Monitoring, or operational risk management.

Responsibilities

  • Administer the organisation's internal safety reporting system.
  • Receive, register, classify and track safety reports, hazards, occurrences and near misses.
  • Review reports for completeness and coordinate with relevant departments for additional information.
  • Encourage personnel to report hazards and unsafe conditions.
  • Support the principles of Just Culture and positive reporting culture.
  • Maintain a central hazard register.
  • Identify recurring hazards and systemic safety concerns.
  • Facilitate hazard identification and risk assessment activities.
  • Support departments in conducting formal safety risk assessments.
  • Maintain and update the Safety Risk Register.
  • Monitor the implementation of risk mitigation actions.
  • Conduct effectiveness reviews to determine whether controls are achieving the desired result.
  • Escalate overdue or ineffective mitigation actions.
  • Pay particular attention to MRO-related risks such as maintenance error, human factors, foreign object damage, incorrect tooling, configuration control, engine transportation and handling, contractor activities and production pressure.
  • Support the investigation of safety occurrences and significant hazards.

Job description

Department: Quality & Safety

Reports to: Deputy Safety Manager/ Functionally reports to CMM/ Safety Manager.


Purpose

The SMS & Safety Training Officer will support the Safety Manager in the implementation, administration, maintenance and continual improvement of the organisation's Safety Management System.


The position holder will act as a dedicated focal point for day-to-day SMS activities, including hazard identification, safety risk assessment, occurrence analysis, safety performance monitoring, safety promotion and SMS training.


The role is particularly important in an Engine MRO environment, where safety risks may arise from maintenance activities, human performance, tooling and equipment, engine handling, preservation, shift handovers, contractor interfaces, production pressures and changes to processes or facilities.


The position should support, but not replace, the responsibility of operational managers for managing safety within their own areas.


Key Responsibilities

A. Safety Reporting and Hazard Identification


  • Administer the organisation's internal safety reporting system.

  • Receive, register, classify and track safety reports, hazards, occurrences and near misses.

  • Review reports for completeness and coordinate with relevant departments for additional information.

  • Encourage personnel to report hazards and unsafe conditions.

  • Support the principles of Just Culture and positive reporting culture.

  • Maintain a central hazard register.

  • Identify recurring hazards and systemic safety concerns.

  • Ensure significant safety issues are promptly escalated to the Safety Manager and relevant management.


B. Safety Risk Management


  • Facilitate hazard identification and risk assessment activities.

  • Support departments in conducting formal safety risk assessments.

  • Apply the organisation's approved risk assessment methodology.

  • Evaluate hazards in terms of severity, likelihood and overall risk.

  • Develop and coordinate appropriate mitigation measures with responsible managers.

  • Maintain and update the Safety Risk Register.

  • Monitor the implementation of risk mitigation actions.

  • Conduct effectiveness reviews to determine whether implemented controls are achieving the intended result.

  • Escalate overdue or ineffective mitigation actions.

  • Particular attention should be given to MRO-related risks such as maintenance error, human factors, foreign object damage, incorrect tooling, configuration control, engine transportation and handling, contractor activities and production pressure.


C. Occurrence Investigation and Safety Analysis


  • Support the investigation of safety occurrences and significant hazards.

  • Collect factual information, records and supporting evidence.

  • Facilitate root cause and contributing factor analysis.


Minimum requirement


  • 8 years of aviation experience, preferably in à Part-145, MRO, airline engineering, or aviation technical environment.

  • At least 2-3 years of relevant exposure to Safety, Quality, Compliance Monitoring, or operational risk management.


Strongly preferred


  • Practical experience in a Part-145 maintenance organisation.

  • Understanding of maintenance processes, documentation, tooling, inspections and release processes.

  • Experience working with technicians, certifying staff, engineers and production personnel.
