Job summary

John Cockerill in Mumbai is seeking a Power BI Specialist to translate requirements into analytical models, build dashboards, and ensure deployment and knowledge transfer to end users.

The ideal candidate has 1–3 years of experience, a BE in CS/IS/Data Analytics, and hands-on skills with Power BI, Power Query, DAX, SQL, and dimensional modelling (star schema). Proficiency in English and international exposure are required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor degree in a relevant field and 1–3 years of experience.
• Strong English communication; ability to work in a multi-cultural environment.
• Knowledge of Power BI development, data modelling and reporting best practices.

Responsibilities

• Understand reporting requirements from stakeholders and translate into specs.
• Collaborate with ETL team for data preparation and transformation.
• Develop Power BI dashboards, reports, apps and dataflows.
• Implement star schema dimensional modelling and RLS for data security.
• Manage data refreshes and semantic models in Power BI services.
• Organize work backlog and track tasks in Jira or similar tool.

As a Power BI Specialist, your main responsibilities will include understanding end user’s needs, translating them into analytical models, creating interactive dashboards, reports, apps with Power BI, testing the deliverables, deploying the solution, and ensuring knowledge transfer to end users.

Key Responsibilities

• Collaborate with stakeholders to understand reporting requirements.
• Translate business requirements into clear specifications for the ETL team to support data preparation and transformation.
• Use Power Query for data transformation and manipulation.
• Create and manage dataflows to automate data updates.
• Manage semantic models’ data refreshes.
• Write advanced DAX formulas for complex business calculations.
• Develop and maintain Power BI dashboards and reports.
• Implement dimensional modelling (star schema) for efficient data organization.
• Implement Power BI Row Level Security (RLS) to provide data access based on user roles.
• Organize backlog in the Jira ticketing tool.

Education & Experience

• Bachelor of Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Analytics, Business Intelligence…
• 1-3 Years of relevant experience.

Certifications

• PL-300: Microsoft Power BI Data Analyst or equivalent Power BI experience is considered an asset.

Background, Skills and Competencies

• Excellent problem-solving skills
• Excellent communication skills in English both written and verbal is mandatory for this role.
• Proven international experience in a multi-cultural environment is mandatory for this role.
• Able to convert business requests into business requirements.

Technical skills

Mandatory:

• Proficiency with Power Query.
• Proficiency with DAX.
