Job summary

Eaton in Puducherry, India seeks an experienced Electrical/ Electronics NPD engineer to lead R&D for MV Switchgear components, driving innovation, compliance, and industrialization across the portfolio.

Responsibilities include supervising MV design activities (VCB, RMU, AIS, GIS), defining test plans, coordinating type testing, root-cause analysis, and ensuring IEC standards compliance to deliver robust, cost-effective solutions.

Qualifications

• BE in Electrical/ Electronics Engg.
• 10+ years of experience in NPD.

Responsibilities

• Manage the research, design, and development of critical components for MV Switchgear.
• Drive innovation, compliance, and industrialization to strengthen the competitiveness of MV Switchgear portfolio.
• Supervise VCB, RMU, AIS and GIS design activities for MV Switchgear.
• Define and approve type and prototype test plans covering MV Switchgear components.
• Coordinate type testing with accredited labs and oversee in-house prototype validation.
• Lead root cause analysis of failures and implement corrective actions across product families.
• Ensure compliance with IEC / 100 / 102 / 103 / 200 standards and customer-specific/utility requirements.
• Maintain technical documentation for certifications, approvals, and type testing.
• Use DFMEA and reliability methods to improve robustness and quality.
• Coordinate with manufacturing, supply chain, electrical, and quality teams for industrialization.
• Collaborate with suppliers and R&D institutions to localize components and reduce costs and lead times.
• Anticipate problems and take proactive steps; make timely decisions.
• Deliver results with quality and cost targets.

What You'll Do

Manage the research, design, and development of critical components for Medium Voltage (MV) Switchgear. Drive innovation, compliance, and industrialization to strengthen the competitiveness of MV Switchgear portfolio.

• Supervise VCB, RMU, AIS and GIS design activities for MV Switchgear
• Define and approve type and prototype test plans covering MV Switchgear components
• Coordinate type testing with accredited labs (KEMA, CESI, GCC Lab) and oversee in-house prototype validation.
• Lead root cause analysis of failures and ensure effective corrective measures across both product families.
• Guarantee compliance with IEC / 100 / 102 / 103 / 200 standards as well as customer-specific and utility requirements.
• Maintain technical documentation supporting certifications, approvals, and type testing for both MV Switchgear projects.
• Utilize DFMEA and reliability engineering methods to strengthen robustness and long-term quality of Switchgear components.
• Coordinate with manufacturing, supply chain, electrical, and quality teams to ensure industrialization of components for both MV Switchgear.
• Collaborate with suppliers and R&D institutions to localize and qualify components, reducing costs and lead times across both product lines.
• Able to anticipate problems and make the necessary proactive steps to prevent them
• Ability to take necessary and proper timely decisions.
• Deliver the required results in timely manner with required quality and cost.
