Job summary

Perfect Digital Media Resources is seeking a capable Journal Manager to lead the Open Access Journal Publishing department and help develop and implement the overall publishing strategy. You will supervise the journal production team, coordinating with editors, clients, and internal teams to ensure end-to-end production workflows are efficient, timely, and within budget.

• Proven managerial experience in journal publishing or production.
• Experience leading journal production teams and handling multiple titles.
• Strong understanding of journal publishing and production workflows, especially Open Access.
• Highly organized and able to manage multiple priorities and tight deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Lead the Open Access Journal Publishing department and help develop and implement the overall publishing strategy.

• Manage end-to-end journal production workflow across editorial, copyediting, typesetting, proofreading, and delivery.
• Implement and continuously improve publishing processes, workflows, and quality standards within budgets.
• Ensure on-time delivery in accordance with client requirements, SLAs, quality standards, and timelines.
• Plan workloads, allocate resources, and monitor production schedules to ensure timely delivery.
• Monitor performance against productivity, quality, turnaround time, and SLA targets.

Job description

• Lead the Open Access Journal Publishing department and help develop and implement the overall publishing strategy.
• Provide hands-on leadership to the journal production team, working closely with journal stakeholders, editors, clients, and internal teams.
• Manage and monitor the end-to-end journal production workflow, ensuring efficient coordination across editorial, copyediting, typesetting, proofreading, quality control, and final delivery.
• Implement and continuously improve publishing processes, workflows, and quality standards to ensure journals are delivered on time and within agreed budgets.
• Take ownership of successful journal delivery in accordance with client requirements, SLAs, quality standards, and agreed timelines.
• Plan and organise team workloads, allocate resources effectively, and monitor production schedules to ensure timely delivery.
• Monitor team performance against agreed productivity, quality, turnaround time, and SLA targets.

Preferred candidate profile

• Established managerial experience as a Journal Manager, Publishing Manager, or Production Manager, preferably within academic publishing.
• Proven experience in leading and managing journal production teams and handling multiple journal titles simultaneously.
• Strong understanding of journal publishing and production workflows, particularly Open Access publishing.
• Highly organised, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities and tight publishing deadlines.
• Strong planning, coordination, prioritisation, and follow-up skills.
• Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with editors, clients, authors, and internal teams.
• Flexible to work in a 2:00 PM 10:00 PM shift, as the role requires production delivery and stakeholder coordination up to approximately 10:00 PM.
