Assistant Manager / Deputy Manager - Structural Engineer
The Structural Engineer is responsible to prepare in house or coordinate with vendor and issue the execution documentation for the scope of the Structural department of the Metal Business of John Cockerill, mainly steel structure, casing/ducting, stack, insulation works. He/She assures the delivery on time of layouts, calculation notes, engineering, manufacturing and erection drawings according to the milestones defined by the execution Project Teams. He/She is particularly responsible to deliver his/her work in conformity with internal quality standards as defined in the QMS of the Metal Business of John Cockerill.
Key Responsibilities
- Application of the Design Process
- Check the completeness of the inputs received from the Technical Project Manager in order to proceed to his/her work
- Issue the execution documentation (mainly layouts, calculation notes and drawings) in compliance with internal standards and contractual requirements
- Analysis and design calculations of Structures using Indian Code, Indian Sections or International Standards
- Structural analysis, design calculations using STAAD-pro
- Calculation of foundation loads and foundation load data of Supporting steelstructure
- Calculation of Base plates sizing along with foundation bolts design. Preparation of Tekla 3D Model (Workshop drawing, inclusive of bolts, spools, holes, …)
- Preparation of 3D model of structures using TEKLA structure software
- Preparation of basic engineering drawings (2d Assembly)
- Preparing detailed engineering drawings
- Preparation of Tekla 3D Model (Workshop drawing, inclusive of bolts, spools, holes, …)
- Extraction of 2D AutoCAD fabrication drawings from TEKLA model of general assembly and sub‑assemblies’ drawings for each floor and grid of the structure including pieces’ mark and bolts
- Preparation & submission of calculation report
- Issue the execution documentation in compliance with administrative standards
- Issue BOMs for equipment purchasing
- Issue and update the standard technical documentation of the Structural Department
- Keep his competencies updated with regards to the needs of the Metal Sector
- Be proactive in the continuous improvement and REX processes
- Work in close co‑ordination with other functional team members of mechanical, furnace and technical project management
- Create and check engineering related documents as per the Quality Management System and Design Approval Matrix
- Aid manufacturing in case of any design queries
- Communicating with customer and participating in technical discussions
- Co‑ordination with Erection and commissioning for site support
Education & Experience
- 5-10 years of relevant experience within an engineering context for an engineer position, more than 15 years for a lead position and at least last 5 years in a similar role
- Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering/BSc degree in Civil or Structural Engineering or related field
- 2D CAD knowledge (AutoCad)
- 3D CAD knowledge (SmartPlant, Inventor, Tekla, STAAD‑PRO)
- Knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, Access)
- Mechanical drawings (cutting, machining, welding, assembly)
- Bill of materials
- Knowledge of mechanical properties of structural steel elements (ASTM, EN, IS)
