Assistant Chief Manager / Manager - Structural Engineer
Role overview: The Structural Engineer is responsible for preparing and issuing execution documentation for the Metal Business of John Cockerill, ensuring timely delivery, quality compliance, and coordination with vendors and project teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Apply the design process and check completeness of inputs from the Technical Project Manager.
- Issue execution documentation (layouts, calculation notes, drawings) in compliance with internal standards and contractual requirements.
- Perform structural analysis and design calculations using Indian Code, Indian Sections, or International Standards.
- Use STAAD.Pro for structural analysis and design calculations.
- Calculate foundation loads, foundation plate sizing, and design supporting steel structures, including bolts.
- Prepare Tekla 3D models (workshop drawings, bolts, spools, holes, etc.) and extract 2D AutoCAD fabrication drawings from the TEKLA model.
- Prepare basic and detailed engineering drawings (2D assembly).
- Prepare and submit calculation reports.
- Create and issue BOMs for equipment purchasing.
- Update and maintain standard technical documentation of the Structural Department.
- Stay current with Metal Sector requirements and drive continuous improvement and REX processes.
- Coordinate closely with mechanical, furnace, and technical project management teams.
- Create and verify engineering documents as per QMS and Design Approval Matrix.
- Assist manufacturing with design queries.
- Communicate with customers and participate in technical discussions.
- Coordinate with erection and commissioning teams for site support.
Education & Experience
- 10–14 years of relevant engineering experience for an engineer position, or >15 years for a lead position, with at least 5 years in a similar role.
- Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering / BSc in Civil or Structural Engineering or related field.
- Proficiency in 2D CAD (AutoCAD) and 3D CAD (SmartPlant, Inventor, Tekla, STAAD‑PRO).
- Knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, Access).
- Experience with mechanical drawings (cutting, machining, welding, assembly).
- Understanding of bill of materials.
- Knowledge of mechanical properties of structural steel elements (ASTM, EN, IS).
