Job summary

Tata Communications Limited is seeking an AS/400 System Administrator with 6-10 years of experience to manage AS/400 systems, monitor job queues, and ensure high availability. The role includes BRMS-based backups, OS upgrades, and automation scripting to improve reliability and efficiency.

The candidate will also handle system health metrics, verify service status, and run daily to monthly maintenance tasks, while coordinating with operations teams to meet SLA requirements.

Qualifications

• Graduate with 6-10 years of experience in AS/400 systems.
• Experience in system monitoring, backups, and OS upgrade troubleshooting.

Responsibilities

• System Monitoring that includes JOB Queue monitoring, OUTPUT Queue Monitoring, Message Monitoring.
• System Health Check covering Processor Utilization, ASP utilization, I/O, and database I/O.
• Check availability of I/O controllers and required services.
• Perform daily/weekly/monthly backup and restore operations as per customer requests.
• BRMS knowledge: install, setup, configure, maintain.
• Automation scripting to streamline tasks and housekeeping activities.
• Manage HA tools Mimix and QuickEDD; perform hardware/OS upgrades as needed.
• Handle job schedulers and scripting for iSeries tasks (Robot, IJS, WRKJOBSCDE).
• Perform data refresh, auditing, and accounting reporting; ensure SLA compliance.

Broad outline of the Role

• Should be able to perform AS/400 System Administration and Operations.

Minimum Qualifications & Experience

• Graduate with 6-10 years of experience

Key Responsibilities

• System Monitoring that includes JOB Queue monitoring, OUTPUT Queue Monitoring, Message Monitoring.
• System Health Check that includes Processer Utilization, ASP (Auxiliary Storage pool) utilization, Interactive Response Time, Transaction rate, batch Logical Database I/O, Disk arm Utilization, Machine Pool Faults, Disk Storage, Disk IOP Utilization.
• Check the availability status of all types of I/O controllers.
• Check all the required services that are running.
• Check all the peripherals disks, Tape Drives, Optical Drives.
• Perform daily, weekly and Monthly backup/restoration operations. Perform Adhoc backup/restore operations based on customer requests.
• OS upgrade & trouble shotting during OS upgrade failures.
• BRMS complete knowledge. (Install, Setup, Configure, Maintain)
• Programming knowledge to script automation.
• Should have working experience on HA tools Mimix, QuickEdd.
• Install Program Temporary Fix (PTF) as and when required.
• User profile creation / modification.
• Perform housekeeping activities like unwanted Spool file deletions, Reorganize the Database, Reclaim the storage.
• Start and Stop the system (IPL)
• Configure and Monitor Sub systems.
• Perform Data Refresh. Configure and perform Auditing and generate Audit Reports.
• Configure and perform Accounting and generate accounting reports.
• Resolution of all tickets based on SLA requirements.
• Firmware, patching and microcode up-gradation.
• iSeries Job Schedulers - Robot, IBM Advanced Job Scheduler (IJS) and the Native Job Scheduler (WRKJOBSCDE).
• Cartridge tape technology and ATLs.
• OEM s/w and tools. E.g. Robot, etc.
• S/W upgrades and maintenance on various OEM products.
• HMCs Operations / LPAR Management
