Assistant General Manager - Quality (Plant Quality Head)
This plant quality head will be responsible for leading the overall quality function of manufacturing plants, ensuring world‑class quality standards across all manufacturing processes. The role requires strong leadership to manage a team of quality managers and drive continuous improvement, customer satisfaction, and compliance with applicable quality management systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and mentor a team of quality managers to achieve plant quality objectives.
- Establish and implement quality strategies, systems, and procedures across the plant.
- Ensure quality assurance and control throughout machining, fabrication, material inspection, heat treatment, chrome plating, assembly, coating, painting and dispatch.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives using modern manufacturing practices and quality tools.
- Monitor quality performance, investigate complaints, perform root cause analysis, and implement effective corrective and preventive actions.
- Ensure compliance with ISO and customer‑specific quality requirements.
- Collaborate with production, engineering, supply chain, and erection & commissioning teams to improve product quality and manufacturing efficiency.
- Develop supplier quality improvement programs and monitor supplier performance.
- Review quality metrics, prepare management reports, and present quality performance to senior leadership.
- Lead internal and external quality audits and ensure timely closure of audit observations.
- Promote a culture of quality, safety, accountability, and continuous improvement throughout the organization.
- Strong knowledge of quality management systems and manufacturing quality assurance.
- Hands‑on experience in machining, fabrication, materials, heat treatment, coating, plating, and assembly processes.
- Sound knowledge of quality tools such as 7 QC tools, SPC, FMEA, APQP, PPAP, MSA, 8D, root cause analysis, CAPA, Kaizen, lean manufacturing, and six sigma.
- Good understanding of modern manufacturing practices and continuous improvement methodologies.
- Strong leadership, communication, problem‑solving, and decision‑making skills.
- Ability to work effectively with cross‑functional teams and customers.
- Technical skills: working knowledge of SAP (quality and production modules preferred).
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and MS Office applications.
- Experience in preparing management dashboards, quality reports, and executive presentations.
- Proven experience in leading plant‑level quality operations and managing multiple quality managers.
- Strong customer‑facing experience with the ability to handle quality audits, customer inspections, and quality improvement initiatives.
- Demonstrated success in driving operational excellence, reducing quality cost, and improving customer satisfaction.
Experience
16 to 22 years in heavy engineering industry (steel plant manufacturing preferred).
Qualification
B.E./B.Tech. in mechanical engineering.
