Job summary

Ascendra Partners in Chennai seeks an Assembly Operations Manager to lead day-to-day assembly activities and ensure production targets are met. You will drive productivity across instrumentation and electronics products and oversee a sizable team to maintain high performance.

The role requires strong leadership, hands-on problem solving, and implementation of Lean/Kaizen/5S to improve throughput and efficiency while maintaining safety and quality standards.

Qualifications

• Lead day-to-day assembly operations to meet production targets and delivery requirements.
• Mentor and develop a team of supervisors, engineers, technicians, and operators (200–300 size).
• Coordinate with planning and procurement for material availability and timely order execution.
• Drive Lean, Kaizen, and 5S to improve productivity and throughput.
• Ensure ISO compliance, quality KPIs, and CAPA actions.

Responsibilities

• Lead day-to-day assembly operations to meet production schedules or customer delivery requirements.
• Oversee assembly of instrumentation products, electronic control panels, PCB assemblies, sensors, transmitters, controllers, and related systems.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives across assembly lines and optimize manpower/machines/tools.

Role & responsibilities

Assembly Operations Management

• Lead and manage day-to-day assembly operations to meet production schedules and customer delivery requirements. Ensure achievement of daily, weekly, and monthly production targets. Oversee assembly of instrumentation products, electronic control panels, PCB assemblies, sensors, transmitters, controllers, and related systems. Monitor assembly processes and identify opportunities to improve productivity and efficiency. Ensure proper allocation of manpower, machines, tools, and resources. Drive continuous improvement initiatives across assembly lines.

Team Leadership & People Management

• Lead, mentor, and develop a team of supervisors, engineers, technicians, and operators. Conduct performance reviews and capability assessments. Implement skill development programs and technical training initiatives. Build a culture of accountability, ownership, teamwork, and operational excellence. Resolve workforce issues and maintain healthy employee relations. Manage a team size of 200300 members depending on operational requirements.

Production Planning & Control

• Coordinate with planning and supply chain teams for material availability. Review production schedules and ensure timely order execution. Monitor Work-in-Progress (WIP) and optimize production flow. Ensure adherence to production timelines and dispatch commitments. Develop strategies to minimize downtime and improve throughput.

Technical & Process Excellence

• Establish and optimize assembly processes for instrumentation and electronics products. Drive Lean Manufacturing, Kaizen, 5S, and productivity improvement initiatives. Implement process standardization and SOP compliance. Analyze root causes of process inefficiencies and implement corrective actions. Support NPI (New Product Introduction) activities and engineering change management.

Quality Management

• Ensure compliance with ISO standards, quality procedures, and customer requirements. Work closely with QA/QC teams to minimize defects and rework. Monitor quality KPIs, First Pass Yield (FPY), rejection rates, and customer complaints. Drive CAPA (Corrective and Preventive Actions) implementation. Ensure product reliability and compliance with specifications.

Inventory & Material Management

• Coordinate with Stores and Procurement teams for seamless material flow. Monitor inventory utilization and reduce material wastage. Ensure FIFO practices and inventory accuracy. Maintain optimal stock levels to avoid production interruptions.

Safety & Compliance

• Ensure compliance with EHS (Environment, Health & Safety) regulations. Promote safe work practices across assembly operations. Conduct safety audits and risk assessments. Ensure regulatory and statutory compliance requirements are met.

Reporting & Performance Monitoring

• Prepare and present production MIS and operational reports. Monitor KPIs including: o Productivity o OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness) o On-Time Delivery o Rejection & Rework Rates o Assembly Cycle Time o Cost Reduction Metrics o Manpower Utilization. Present improvement initiatives and operational performance to management.
