Role Overview
We are looking for experienced Android Automotive HMI Developers to join our automotive software development team working on projects for leading German OEMs.
The role primarily involves ticket-based feature development, bug fixing, code maintenance, and continuous improvement of Android Automotive HMI applications. The candidate should have strong Android development fundamentals, excellent debugging skills, and a strong focus on code quality, maintainability, and adherence to development standards.
The ideal candidate is someone who takes ownership of assigned tickets, understands the existing codebase quickly, implements robust solutions, and delivers clean, well-tested, production-quality code.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain Android Automotive HMI applications based on feature and defect tickets.
- Analyze requirements and translate them into technical implementation.
- Implement new HMI features and enhancements using Kotlin/Java.
- Investigate, debug, and fix software defects across application and integration layers.
- Perform root-cause analysis rather than implementing only workaround-based fixes.
- Understand and work effectively within an existing, large-scale Android/AOSP codebase.
- Write clean, readable, maintainable, and reusable code.
- Follow defined coding guidelines, architecture principles, and development standards.
- Develop appropriate unit tests and automated tests for implemented features and bug fixes.
- Perform code reviews and address review comments effectively.Ensure changes do not introduce regressions in existing functionality.
- Analyze logs, crashes, stack traces, and system behavior to identify issues.
- Collaborate with developers, testers, architects, UX teams, and other engineering teams to resolve tickets.
- Participate in Agile/Scrum ceremonies and provide accurate technical estimates and status updates.
- Maintain proper technical documentation for implemented features and fixes.
- Work closely with teams and stakeholders supporting German automotive OEM projects.
Required Technical Skills
- 510 years of professional software development experience.
- Strong hands-on experience in Android application development.
- Strong programming skills in Kotlin and/or Java.
- Good understanding of:
- Android SDK
- Android application components
- Android lifecycle
- Services and background processing
- IPC / AIDL
- Threads and concurrency
- Android UI frameworks
- Gradle
- Android Studio
- Experience with Android Automotive OS (AAOS) is required.
- Understanding of AOSP and Android Framework is highly desirable.
- Experience developing HMI / infotainment applications.
- Good understanding of modern Android architecture such as MVVM/MVI.
- Experience with Jetpack/AndroidX; Jetpack Compose knowledge is a plus.
- Strong debugging and problem-solving skills.
- Hands-on experience with Git/Gerrit or similar version-control and code-review systems.
Automotive Skills
- Experience in Automotive Infotainment / HMI / Cockpit development.
- Understanding of Vehicle HAL (VHAL) and vehicle-related Android services is preferred.
- Knowledge of automotive interfaces such as CAN, SOME/IP,
- Experience working with OEM-specific HMI requirements is desirable.
- Knowledge of automotive software development processes such as ASPICE is a plus.

Education
Bachelor’s/Master’s degree in Computer Science, Electronics, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline. Role & responsibilities
