Job Responsibilities
Job Introduction: The Server License & Configuration Analyst is responsible for managing server licensing, configuring and maintaining server environments, and supporting license management tools such as Open LM & LMT. This role ensures compliance with licensing standards, optimal server performance, and effective license utilization across the organization. This individual will apply proven communication, analytical and problem‑solving skills to help identify, communicate and resolve malfunctions and make the appropriate recommendations to maximize the benefit of IT systems.
Major Responsibilities
- Manage and monitor server licenses, ensuring compliance with licensing agreements and minimizing over‑licensing or unlicensed usage.
- Configure, deploy, and maintain server hardware and software, ensuring optimal performance and security.
- Support and operate license management tools such as Open LM and LMT to track and audit license usage.
- Perform regular server health checks, troubleshoot configuration issues, and implement necessary updates or patches.
- Coordinate with licensing vendors and internal teams to resolve license‑related issues.
- Implement best practices for server configuration, including security and performance optimization.
- Maintain documentation related to server configuration, licensing inventory, and compliance records.
- Collaborate with IT, Engineering, and Business teams to understand current and projected software/license needs.
- Develop and maintain license demand plans aligned with project timelines and organizational growth.
- Assist in planning and executing server hardware upgrades and expansions.
- Provide local license support, including installation, configuration, and deployment of licenses and Engineering tools (e.g., MathWorks, Dassault, Ansys, Altair, Vector).
- Support automation of license and server management processes where applicable.
- Keep up‑to‑date with licensing policy changes, licensing tools, and server technologies, as well as the latest patches and features released by vendors.
- Implement and configure license brokers within the Open LM platform to facilitate efficient license management and monitoring.
- Work collaboratively with IT, licensing teams, and vendors to optimize broker deployment strategies and resolve any technical challenges.
Knowledge and Education
- Degree in computer science or a similar field.
- Ability to work cross‑functionally and manage multiple priorities.
- ITIL certification.
- Microsoft Certification is desirable.
- Experience with license management tools and software asset management (SAM) systems is preferred.
Work Experience
- 5 – 8 years of work‑related experience.
Skills And Competencies
- Strong customer service orientation.
- Experience with license management tools, specifically Open LM.
- Proven experience in license or demand management, procurement, or software licensing.
- Knowledge of license server configurations and broker deployment.
- Familiarity with scripting and automation tools related to license management.
- Experience with setup, troubleshooting, and deployment of engineering tools & software.
- Strong problem‑solving and troubleshooting skills.
- Good communication and documentation skills.
