Job summary

Merlin Group in Kolkata seeks a Commercial & Procurement professional to manage end-to-end procurement for construction materials, services, and equipment, ensuring cost optimization and timely payments through vendor evaluation and negotiation.

You will coordinate with site teams, monitor compliance, maintain vendor databases, and support budgeting with MIS reporting. Proficiency in MS Office and ERP systems is required.

Job description

A. Commercial & Procurement:

• End-to-end procurement of construction materials, services, and equipment as per project requirements.
• Floating enquiries, preparing comparative statements, negotiation, and vendor finalization.
• Ensure cost optimization through strategic sourcing and continuous vendor evaluation.
• Verification of contractor bills, rate analysis, and coordination with other departments for timely payments.
• Maintain documentation of contracts, agreements, and commercial records.

B. Technical Coordination:

• Coordinate closely with the project/site team to understand material specifications, BOQs, technical requirements, and project timelines.
• Evaluate technical submissions, product samples, and compliance with project standards.
• Monitor progress to ensure materials/services are provided within schedule.

C. Vendor & Contractor Management:

• Develop and maintain a strong vendor database for materials and services.
• Conduct vendor meetings, market visits, workshops, performance reviews, and compliance checks.
• Negotiate long-term rates and commercial terms to support multiple projects.
• Ensure vendors adhere to safety, quality, and statutory guidelines.

D. Cost Control & Budgeting:

• Assist in preparation of project budgets along with engineering and finance teams.
• Track purchase vs. budget, identify variances, and submit periodic MIS reports.
• Conduct cost-benefit analysis for procurement decisions and propose value engineering alternatives.

E. Skills & Competencies:

• Strong negotiation and vendor-management skills.
• Good understanding of construction materials, real estate operations, and technical specifications.
• Proficiency in MS Office, ERP systems.
