Job summary

SMEC Automation Pvt. Ltd. in Mumbai seeks a detail-oriented commerce graduate to join our Accounts Department.

Qualifications

• Educational qualification: First Class B.Com. graduate from a recognized university preferred.
• 3–4 years of relevant experience in an Accounts or Finance Department.
• Marine accounting or shipping finance experience strongly preferred.
• Good understanding of GST, TDS, and statutory documentation.

Responsibilities

• Maintain day-to-day accounting records including journal entries and ledgers.
• Process vendor invoices and coordinate payments.
• Prepare bank reconciliations and vendor/customer account reconciliations.
• Assist with customer invoicing and accounts receivable monitoring.
• Support GST and TDS documentation and compliance activities.
• Maintain organized financial records and assist in periodic reports.
• Coordinate with procurement, operations, and internal teams regarding invoices and payments.
• Assist with month-end closing and audits.

Job description

SMEC Automation is looking for a detail-oriented and motivated commerce graduate to join our Accounts Department.

Candidates with relevant marine accounting or shipping industry experience will be strongly preferred.

Job Objective

To support the company's finance and accounting operations by managing day-to-day accounting activities, vendor and customer transactions, banking operations, reconciliations, invoicing, and financial documentation while ensuring accuracy and compliance with applicable accounting standards and statutory requirements.

Candidate Profile

• Educational Qualification: First Class B.Com. graduate from a recognized university preferred.


• Work Experience: 3–4 years of relevant experience in an Accounts or Finance Department, preferably in an established organization.


• Marine Accounting Experience (Strongly Preferred): Candidates with prior experience in marine accounting, shipping finance, or the maritime industry will be given preference. Familiarity with shipping-related financial transactions, vessel expenses, marine service invoicing, and accounting operations within shipping or marine engineering organizations will be an added advantage.


• Accounting Knowledge: Sound understanding of general accounting principles, bookkeeping, journal entries, ledger maintenance, and financial documentation.


• GST & TDS: Working knowledge of GST, TDS, and related statutory documentation and compliance requirements.


• Banking & Reconciliation: Experience in bank reconciliation, vendor account reconciliation, payment processing, and monitoring outstanding transactions.


• Accounts Payable & Receivable: Familiarity with vendor invoice processing, customer invoicing, payment follow-ups, and maintaining accurate transaction records.


• MS Office Skills: Proficiency in MS Excel and MS Word for financial reporting, reconciliations, and documentation.


• Analytical Skills: Strong numerical, analytical, and problem-solving abilities, with a keen eye for detail.


• Communication: Good written and verbal communication skills, along with the ability to coordinate effectively with internal teams, vendors, and customers.


• Professional Attributes: High standards of accuracy, integrity, confidentiality, and organization, with the ability to work collaboratively and meet deadlines.

Key Responsibilities

• Maintain day-to-day accounting records, including journal entries, ledgers, and supporting documentation.


• Process vendor invoices, verify supporting documents, and coordinate vendor payments.


• Prepare and maintain bank reconciliations and vendor/customer account reconciliations.


• Assist with customer invoicing, accounts receivable monitoring, and payment follow-ups.


• Support GST and TDS documentation and other applicable statutory compliance activities.


• Maintain organized financial records and assist in preparing periodic accounting reports.


• Coordinate with procurement, operations, and other internal departments regarding invoices, payments, and accounting documentation.


• Assist with month-end closing activities and provide necessary information for audits.


• Ensure accounting transactions are recorded accurately and in accordance with company policies and procedures.
