Job description

Accounts Executive in Pune | Watershed Organisation Trust - WOTR
Watershed Organisation Trust - WOTR

WOTR works on the root causes of rural poverty by restoring ecosystems and helping village communities stand up to climate change. Its work brings back water availability, improves land and farm productivity, widens livelihood options, supports women's leadership, and strengthens the health and well being of vulnerable rural families. WOTR brings practitioners, academics, researchers, trainers and policy makers together, backed by donors and government partners. Over 32 years it has worked in 10 states and 7,255 villages, touching the lives of about 8 million people. This role sits within WOTR's finance and accounts function, which keeps the organisation's money, records and statutory obligations in order so that programme teams can do their work in the field.

Role

As Accounts Executive you will look after the organisation's accounts and the paperwork behind them, run designated financial operations, and make sure WOTR stays compliant with every statutory requirement. You will prepare and track budgets, produce financial reports and analysis, and turn those numbers into insights that help leadership make sound decisions. The work asks for a steady hand with financial management, taxation, reporting and compliance, along with the ability to explain financial matters clearly to people who are not accountants.

Responsibilities
  • Oversee financial operations and prepare accurate financial reports for management and stakeholders.
  • Develop and implement finance and accounting policies, systems and guidelines, and report any irregularities.
  • Maintain updated books of accounts in Tally and keep records audit ready at all times.
  • Assist in preparing and monitoring annual and quarterly budgets and expenditure.
  • Prepare financial statements, cash flow and variance analysis, forecasts, Balance Sheet, Income and Expenditure account, and Receipts and Payments accounts.
  • Ensure compliance with FCRA, Income Tax, GST, TDS, Provident Fund and ESIS regulations.
  • Coordinate with internal and annual auditors, answer audit queries, and finalise annual accounts.
  • Prepare and submit project audit reports in the formats donors require.
  • Put internal controls in place to safeguard financial assets and prevent fraud.
  • Manage and process donation receipts, including issuing 10BE certificates for Indian donations.
  • Handle cash deposits and bank transactions, and reconcile bank statements.
  • Prepare and monitor trust fund budgets and accounts, invest trust funds as the law allows, and verify MoUs, legal documents and project budgets for compliance.
Requirements
  • A bachelor's or master's degree in accountancy, finance or a related discipline.
  • Proven experience of 3 to 8 years in accounts and finance.
  • In depth knowledge of FCRA regulations and reporting.
  • Working knowledge of Income Tax, GST, TDS, Provident Fund and ESIS rules.
  • Hands on experience maintaining books of accounts in Tally.
  • Comfort preparing financial statements, variance analysis reports and forecasts.
  • Ability to prepare a Balance Sheet, Income and Expenditure account, and Receipts and Payments accounts.
  • Experience coordinating audits and closing out audit queries.
  • Familiarity with donor reporting requirements and project level audit reports.
  • Understanding of internal controls and how to protect an organisation's funds.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail in record keeping and documentation.
  • Clear communication skills, with the ability to present financial information to non finance colleagues.
  • Willingness to support administration and programme teams on financial matters.
  • Based in or willing to work from Pune.
  • A role at the centre of a 32 year old organisation whose work reaches about 8 million people.
  • Exposure to the full finance cycle, from daily bookkeeping to statutory compliance and donor audits.
  • A collaborative environment shared with practitioners, researchers, trainers and policy makers.
