Job summary

Speed Global in Pune, India is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to design automation equipment, fixtures, and SPMs, and to prepare manufacturing drawings and documentation for complex projects.

You will perform structural calculations, select mechanical components, and ensure designs meet GD&T and manufacturability standards while collaborating with manufacturing, controls, procurement, and project teams to ensure successful execution and timely delivery.

Qualifications

• Diploma/B.E./B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering required.
• 3–6 years of experience in mechanical design of automation systems.
• Proficiency in SolidWorks, AutoCAD, and PLM/PDM systems.
• Strong GD&T knowledge and engineering drawing standards.
• Experience with fixtures, SPMs, tooling, and material handling equipment.
• Experience with pneumatic systems and motor/gearbox selection.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop automation equipment, fixtures, SPMs, material handling systems, and tooling solutions per customer and project requirements.
• Create detailed mechanical designs, assembly layouts, and manufacturing drawings with documentation for automation projects.
• Perform engineering calculations related to structural integrity and system performance.
• Design fixtures, checking fixtures, packaging machines, gantries, lifters, and other automation equipment.
• Select and integrate motors, gearboxes, pneumatics, and handling devices.
• Ensure designs meet GD&T, manufacturability, and project specs.
• Collaborate with manufacturing, controls, procurement, and project management for project execution.
• Interact with suppliers and customers for reviews and technical discussions.
• Participate in project planning, execution, and monitoring for timely delivery and quality.
• Support installation, troubleshooting, and commissioning activities as required.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design and develop automation equipment, fixtures, special purpose machines (SPMs), material handling systems, and tooling solutions based on customer and project requirements.


• Create detailed mechanical designs, assembly layouts, manufacturing drawings, and documentation for industrial automation projects.


• Perform engineering calculations related to structural integrity, machine components, mechanisms, actuators, and system performance.


• Design and develop fixtures, checking fixtures, packaging machines, gantries, lifters, manual and pneumatic slides, and other automation equipment.


• Select and integrate mechanical components such as motors, gearboxes, pneumatic systems, and material handling devices.


• Ensure designs comply with GD&T standards, manufacturability requirements, and project specifications.


• Collaborate with cross-functional teams including manufacturing, controls, procurement, and project management to ensure successful project execution.


• Interact with suppliers and customers to support design reviews, technical discussions, and project implementation activities.


• Participate in project planning, execution, and monitoring to ensure timely delivery and adherence to quality standards.


• Support installation, troubleshooting, and commissioning activities as required.

Skills and Experience Required:

• Qualification: Diploma / BE / B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.


• Experience: 3 to 6 years of experience in mechanical design of automation systems, fixtures, special purpose machines (SPMs), tooling, or material handling equipment.


• Strong hands‑on experience in mechanical design and product development.


• Sound knowledge of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing) and engineering drawing standards.


• Strong understanding of mechanical design calculations and machine design principles.
