Job summary

Confidential Engineering & Design Hub seeks a 3D CAD Operator - Mechanical CAD for Japan projects. The role focuses on modeling mid-level mechanical drawings with SOLIDWORKS, converting 2D to 3D, and delivering precise 2D drawings from 3D data.

Work is on-site in Vijayawada under an initial PoC phase with potential for permanent conversion. You will work with senior teams to review quality, follow JIS standards, and track work time and notes to help refine procedures.

Qualifications

• Minimum 1 year of experience
• Strong SOLIDWORKS modeling skills
• Ability to read and interpret 2D drawings (dimensions, tolerances, surface finish)
• Basic understanding of machining and casting processes
• Written English for daily communication with project coordinators

Responsibilities

• 2D to 3D conversion using SOLIDWORKS for parts, assemblies and simple castings
• Create 2D manufacturing drawings from 3D data when required
• Follow regional drafting conventions (JIS) and reviews from technical staff
• Maintain detailed logs for drawings, time, roadblocks and lessons learned
• Estimate modeling hours for incoming mechanical drawings
• Submit completed data securely to designated cloud storage per workflow

Job Type: Contract / Freelance (Monthly renewable contract with potential for full-time conversion based on performance)

Compensation: Above INR 30,000 per month

Working Hours: 10:00 AM 6:00 PM, Monday to Friday

About the Role

We are looking for dedicated 3D CAD Operators to model mid-level mechanical drawings meeting the high-quality standards expected by Japanese manufacturing clients.

In this hands-on production role, you will work directly on real customer drawings, with quality reviews and feedback provided by senior technical teams. This engagement takes place during an initial Proof of Concept (PoC) phase, with strong opportunities for top-performing contractors to transition into permanent, full-time positions as the design hub grows.

Key Responsibilities

• 2D to 3D Conversion: Build accurate 3D models using SOLIDWORKS from customer 2D drawings—primarily focusing on single parts, simple castings, and assemblies (including breaking assemblies down into component part drawings).
• 3D to 2D Detailing: Create precise 2D manufacturing drawings from 3D data where required.
• Standards & Compliance: Follow regional drafting conventions (such as JIS standards) and precise instructions from technical reviewers. Perform independent preliminary research (web, AI tools) when details are unclear before confirming with reviewers.
• Time & Quality Tracking: Maintain detailed logs for every drawing, tracking time taken, roadblocks, research notes, and lessons learned to help build team standard operating procedures.
• Work Estimation: Evaluate incoming mechanical drawings and estimate required modeling hours.
• Workflow Delivery: Submit completed data securely to designated cloud storage following standard operational workflows.

Candidate Requirements

• Experience: Minimum 1yr of experience required; selection is based strictly on evaluated skills and test performance.
• Core Software Skills: Strong SOLIDWORKS modeling skills covering parts, assemblies, and detailed drawings.
• Technical Interpretation: Accurate ability to read and interpret 2D mechanical drawings, including dimensions, tolerances, and surface finish symbols.
• Domain Knowledge: Basic understanding of mechanical machining and casting processes.
• Communication: Basic proficiency in written English for daily communication with project coordinators.

Nice-to-Have Skills

• Knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
• Familiarity with Japanese Industrial Standards (JIS) or prior experience handling projects for Japanese clients.
• Practical experience working with assembly drawings and breaking them down into individual part drawings.
• Experience utilizing AI productivity tools in day-to-day workflows.

Due to the handling of confidential design data from overseas corporate clients, strict security measures are enforced:

• Mandatory Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA) signing prior to accessing customer drawings.
• Personal smartphones are strictly prohibited in the work area.
• Work PC USB ports are disabled, web/email use is restricted, and systems are monitored.
