Job summary

Our client, a Building & Civil Engineering Contractor, is seeking a Working Foreman to lead on-site delivery of construction projects. This hands-on role demands coordinating trades, supervising operatives, and ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently and to a high standard.

You will read drawings, manage labour with the site team, monitor progress and liaise with management to keep the programme on track. A strong safety culture and practical leadership are essential.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience as a Working Foreman or senior tradesperson on building or civil sites.
  • Ability to read and work from construction drawings and specifications.
  • Experience supervising trades, labour and subcontractors on active construction sites.
  • Strong health and safety awareness and safe working practices.
  • Good organisational and communication skills to plan daily activities.
  • Hands-on approach with team collaboration.

Our client, an established Building & Civil Engineering Contractor, is hiring a Working Foreman to support the day-to-day delivery of construction projects on site. This is a hands-on role suited to an experienced tradesperson who can lead from the front, coordinate site activities and ensure work is completed safely, efficiently and to a high standard.

What you'll be doing

Site Supervision & Coordination

  • Lead and supervise site operatives and trades on a day-to-day basis
  • Work alongside the site team while coordinating labour, subcontractors and planned activities
  • Allocate work and ensure tasks are completed in line with drawings, specifications and programme requirements
  • Monitor progress throughout the day and raise any potential delays or issues with site management
  • Coordinate deliveries, materials, plant and equipment to keep works moving efficiently
  • Ensure work areas are properly prepared and that follow-on trades can progress as planned
Quality & Workmanship
  • Maintain high standards of workmanship across all site activities
  • Check completed works against drawings, specifications and agreed quality standards
  • Identify defects or incomplete works and ensure they are addressed promptly
  • Support the Site Manager in maintaining an organised, professional and productive site
  • Ensure materials are used correctly and minimise unnecessary waste
Health & Safety
  • Promote a strong health and safety culture across the site
  • Ensure operatives and subcontractors follow site rules, safe systems of work and company procedures
  • Assist with toolbox talks, daily briefings and site inductions where required
  • Identify potential hazards and raise concerns with site management
  • Ensure appropriate PPE is worn and work areas are maintained in a safe and tidy condition
  • Help drive daily and weekly site targets in line with the construction programme
  • Monitor labour productivity and ensure resources are being used effectively
  • Coordinate trades to minimise downtime and avoid clashes between activities
  • Communicate labour, material or access requirements to the Site Manager in advance
  • Support the site team in resolving practical construction issues as they arise
What you'll bring
  • Previous experience as a Working Foreman, Foreman, Chargehand or experienced senior tradesperson within building or civil engineering
  • A strong practical understanding of construction methods and site operations
  • Ability to read and work from construction drawings and specifications
  • Experience supervising trades, labour and subcontractors on active construction sites
  • Strong awareness of health and safety requirements and safe working practices
  • Good organisational skills with the ability to plan and prioritise daily site activities
  • Confident communication skills and the ability to give clear direction to site teams
  • A hands-on approach and willingness to work alongside the team when required
  • Strong attention to detail and pride in delivering high-quality workmanship
  • Relevant trade qualification and current site safety certification would be advantageous
