Job summary

Jennings O’Donovan Partners, part of the RSK Group, invites a Water Process Engineer to join our Sligo team. You will design water and wastewater infrastructure for utilities and contractors, working in a hybrid setup with mentors and senior staff.

The ideal candidate has 4+ years in water design, proficiency in AutoCAD/InfoWorks, and familiarity with Uisce Éireann standards. You’ll collaborate across disciplines to deliver sustainable, compliant solutions for projects in Ireland and beyond.

Qualifications

• Minimum Level 8 qualification in Civil Engineering or Environmental/Water Resources Engineering.
• Minimum of 4 years of relevant work experience in a design consultancy, with a proven track record in water supply, wastewater treatment, and/or drainage infrastructure design.
• Proficiency in civil infrastructure design, hydraulic analysis, and applicable Irish/ British standards.
• Familiarity with Uisce Éireann standards and UK AMP Frameworks is highly desirable.
• Experience dealing with clients, local authorities and stakeholders.
• Strong verbal and written communication in English.

Responsibilities

• Deliver civil and hydraulic engineering designs meeting standards (Uisce Éireann/UK AMP).
• Prepare detailed calculations and reports from feasibility to detailed design.
• Assist Senior Engineers across the full project lifecycle, including planning and procurement.
• Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure integrated plant and network designs.
• Conduct site inspections, asset surveys, and prepare technical reports.
• Utilise standard design/modelling software to produce efficient outputs.
• Mentor junior engineers and technicians.

The Vacancy

We are currently seeking a full-time Water Process Engineer with experience in designing water and wastewater infrastructure for Water Utilities and Contractors to join our growing team in Sligo, Ireland.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver civil and hydraulic engineering designs, ensuring compliance with relevant standards, including Uisce Éireann and/or UK AMP8 Utilities’ specifications.
• Prepare detailed engineering calculations (including hydraulic modeling, pipe sizing, and pump selections) and technical or design reports for various project stages, from feasibility to detailed design.
• Assist Senior Engineers in the full project lifecycle, including the preparation of planning applications, procurement documentation, and technical specifications.
• Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams (Structural, MEP, and Process) to ensure integrated, holistic design solutions for treatment plants and networks.
• Conduct site inspections, asset surveys, and produce related technical reports, ensuring strict compliance with company quality assurance procedures.
• Utilise industry-standard design and modelling software to produce efficient, sustainable, and accurate civil engineering outputs.
• Actively engage in mentorship from senior staff while providing guidance to junior engineers and technicians.

Key Requirements

• Qualification: Minimum Level 8 qualification in Civil Engineering or Environmental/Water Resources Engineering.
• Experience: Minimum of 4 years of relevant work experience in a design consultancy, with a proven track record in water supply, wastewater treatment, and/or drainage infrastructure design.
• Technical Skills: Proven competency in civil infrastructure design, hydraulic analysis, and the application of relevant Irish and British industry standards. Proficiency in industry-standard design/modeling software (e.g., AutoCAD, MicroDrainage/Causeway, InfoWorks, or similar) is essential.
• Industry Knowledge: Familiarity with Uisce Éireann standards, procedures, and self-lay processes, and/or experience working within UK AMP Frameworks is highly desirable.
• Professional Skills: Experience in dealing with clients, local authorities, and stakeholders.
• Soft Skills: Strong interpersonal skills, a proactive attitude with the ability to manage multiple tasks, and the ability to work effectively under tight deadlines.
• Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
