Job summary

Jennings O Donovan Partners in Ireland seeks a Senior Structural Design Engineer to lead technical delivery on diverse high-profile projects across renewable energy and water sectors. You will oversee civil and structural designs, ensure Eurocodes compliance, mentor a multidisciplinary team, and coordinate with clients, Architects, M&E, and Fire disciplines to deliver sustainable solutions.

A Level 9 Structural Engineering qualification and 10+ years in design consultancy are required; BIM/Revit

Qualifications

  • Degree in Structural Engineering (Level 9) or equivalent.
  • At least 10 years’ experience in a design consultancy, with water/renewables exposure.
  • Proven Eurocodes and British Standards competency; proficient in industry-standard design software.
  • Experience in water/wastewater infrastructure; familiarity with Uisce Éireann standards and UK AMP framework is a plus.
  • Experience as Designer for a Contractor is advantageous.
  • Strong communication and teamwork; Chartered Engineer or working towards chartership.
  • Proficient in Revit and BIM processes; BIM coordination leadership is advantageous.

The Vacancy

Jennings O Donovan Partners, part of RSK Group, is a leading engineering consultancy specialising in the renewable energy and water sectors. We are currently seeking a Senior Structural Design Engineer to lead on the technical delivery of high-quality designs and play a key role on a wide variety of challenging and high-profile projects across multiple sectors.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead the full project lifecycle from bid preparation, preliminary design and feasibility studies to detailed design and construction supervision.
  • Oversee and deliver civil and structural engineering designs, ensuring compliance with relevant standards, including Eurocodes using steel, concrete and masonry.
  • Take technical ownership and lead structural and civil design team.
  • Review and approve structural calculations, drawings, specifications and technical reports.
  • Use and oversee the use of structural analysis software including Tekla, Robot, TEDDS and similar packages.
  • Coordinate closely with clients (local authorities, utility companies and private) as well as multidisciplinary design teams (Architects, M&E, Fire) to deliver safe, practical, efficient, sustainable and constructable solutions.
  • Support and guide the development and review of BIM/Revit structural models and associated documentation.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for clients, building strong relationships and ensuring clear communication throughout all project phases.
  • Undertake site inspections, monitor construction progress and provide technical support on site.
  • Review contractor design submissions, temporary works designs, method statements and value engineering proposals.
  • Undertake role of PSDP, Assigned Certifier and/or Ancillary Certifier.
  • Mentor and manage a multidisciplinary team of engineers and technical staff, fostering a collaborative environment and overseeing professional development.
  • Contribute to design reviews with a strong focus on safety, sustainability, buildability, cost efficiency, and quality.
  • Lead project planning and resourcing inputs to ensure projects are delivered on time and to the highest standard.
  • Prepare and review all project documentation, including design drawings, engineering calculations and inputs to Bills of Quantities.
  • Administer construction contracts, oversee procurement and ensure compliance with design specifications and budgets.
  • Conduct site inspections, produce related reports and ensure compliance with company quality assurance procedures.
  • Proactively identify potential project risks and implement effective risk management strategies.
  • Assist in securing new contracts by preparing technical proposals and tenders.
Key requirements:
  • Minimum Level 9 qualification in Structural Engineering.
  • Minimum 10 years of relevant work experience in a design consultancy, with significant experience in water sector and/or renewable energy infrastructure.
  • Proven competency in structural design and the application of Eurocodes and British Standards. Must be proficient in industry-standard design software.
  • Experience in water and wastewater infrastructure design and in particular, experience working on Uisce Eireann projects and knowledge of Uisce Eireann standards or on UK AMP Framework considered an advantage.
  • Experience in acting as Designer for a Contractor considered an advantage.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team to meet tight deadlines.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • Good working knowledge of Revit and BIM processes (experience leading BIM coordination is an advantage).
  • Chartered Engineer (C.Eng) or actively working towards chartership.
  • Proven ability to lead technical projects and manage teams.
