Job summary

ESB Networks, part of the Electricity Supply Board, seeks a Telecoms professional to lead WAN program delivery and manage IP/Optical telecoms infrastructure. The role involves on-site commissioning, fault resolution, and coordination with field engineers across Ireland's networks.

You will contribute to safety-compliant operations, vendor coordination, and documentation, while pursuing relevant certifications to advance network expertise.

Qualifications

• At least 3 years relevant experience in telecoms or networks.
• Third level qualification in Engineering, Telecommunications, CS or related.
• Hands-on knowledge of IP and Optical networking equipment (Cisco/Nokia).
• Experience with fibre characterisation (OTDR, CD/PMD, OSNR) and NMS/EMS.
• Experience with routing protocols (OSPF, IS-IS, BGP, RSVP-TE).
• Analytical and problem-solving skills for network faults.
• Coordinate with field engineers and manage migrations.
• Strong documentation and stakeholder management.
• Full driving license for site travel.
• Safety-focused, HV substations; CCNA/NRSI/NRSII/ CONA/CONE progress.
• Business case preparation.

Responsibilities

• Commission, configure, and maintain IP and Optical telecommunications infrastructure.
• Diagnose faults and perform root-cause analysis with minimal downtime.
• Ensure safety, quality, and performance standards on all activities.
• Drive innovation and adoption of new telecom technologies.
• Conduct on-site work for commissioning, fault restoration, and projects.
• Prepare design packages, capital approvals, and proposals.
• Maintain accurate as-built and configuration records.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to support delivery and continuity.
