Overview

Electrical Technical Director – Dublin or Cork. RED is an expanding international M&E consultancy focused on low energy design and delivering design solutions to clients. The firm supports the full life cycle of building projects, emphasizing listening to clients and collaborating with project stakeholders to realise zero carbon and high-performance environments.

Role Responsibilities
  • Leads the electrical technology team in Ireland with team management and leadership development.
  • Leads the design and coordination of engineering project services; assists Directors with business strategy and management.
  • Carries out cost and profit diagnosis on projects, including feasibility studies and preparation of project fee proposals.
  • Works closely with clients and project teams to establish project requirements.
  • Reviews status advised by project personnel and external parties; modifies schedules or plans as required and prepares project reports for management or clients.
  • Develops and specifies applications of controls, instruments, and operating systems for building services.
  • Surveys tests and reports on existing electrical/mechanical installations.
  • Manages fiscal and commercial aspects to ensure target margins are achieved.
  • Leads on monitoring construction and installation delivery on projects.
  • Builds long-term relationships with existing clients and engages future prospects.
  • Liaises with manufacturing, construction, installation, and testing teams to ensure compliance with specifications and customer requirements.
  • Represents the company at technical meetings with customers, professional teams, and contractors.
  • Performs engineering calculations to ensure drawings meet robust industry and legal standards.
  • Supports local office management in collaboration with the senior management team.
  • Supports clients in tendering and procurement of MEP contractors and equipment.
  • Leads coordination of engineering services and delivers concept and detail designs.
  • Ensures risk and performance monitoring through internal control and delegation.
  • Mentors and develops younger members of the engineering team.
  • Produces technical white papers to promote RED’s capabilities.
  • Engages in sector management activities with the team and conducts surveys and due diligence for data centres.
  • Represents the company by presenting technical papers at industry events where opportunities arise.
  • Takes a holistic view in the selection and application of engineering concepts and solutions.
Role Requirements
  • BSc/BEng in an appropriate engineering discipline or equivalent experience (Building Services).
  • MCIBSE/MIEE or equivalent qualifications plus relevant experience; Chartered Engineer status.
  • Significant experience in specification design for a range of building types.
  • Experience in managing projects abroad (desirable).
  • Strong knowledge of health and safety issues and legislation.
  • Understanding of contract and business law; familiarity with MS Office.
  • Ability to perform calculations and use spreadsheet software; understanding of Irish standards and regulations.
  • Experience with invoicing and credit control; ability to prioritise workload and meet deadlines.
  • Leadership and mentoring skills; strong presentation and meeting facilitation abilities.
  • Background in consulting or construction preferred; understanding of international operations of a global consultancy.
  • Ability to act ethically in accordance with company Ethics Charter and guidelines.
