Job summary

Ingenio is seeking a Technical Director to lead complex digital engineering programmes across multiple teams, translating business problems into technical solutions for senior clients. This senior, client-facing role demands credibility with CIOs/CTOs and hands-on experience in software architecture, cloud and AI.

Reporting into delivery leadership, you will shape discovery, pre-sales and delivery, define team structures, timelines and approaches, and mentor engineering teams to ensure delivery

Ingenio is partnering with a leading digital engineering consultancy to hire a Technical Director to join its growing delivery organisation.

This is a senior, client-facing technical leadership role for someone who has built and architected complex software solutions, led multiple engineering teams and can operate comfortably with both developers and C-level clients.

This is not a Programme Director or traditional Delivery Manager role. Strong technical credibility, including practical AI experience, is essential.

What you’ll do:

• Lead the technical direction and oversight of complex digital engineering programmes across multiple teams.
• Work directly with senior clients, understanding the business problem and translating it into the right technical solution, architecture and delivery approach.
• Shape solutions across discovery, pre-sales and delivery, including team structure, timelines and technical approach.

What we need:

• A strong software engineering / technical background with proven experience designing and architecting complex solutions.
• Practical AI experience — exposure to designing, building or integrating AI-enabled solutions. Candidates must be able to demonstrate how they've applied AI in real-world technical environments, not simply discuss it at a strategic level.
• Experience leading multiple engineering teams and large-scale technical programmes — not just a single development team.
• Strong client-facing experience, with the ability to engage credibly with CIOs, CTOs and senior business stakeholders.
• Broad technical expertise across software engineering, architecture, cloud and modern development practices rather than deep specialism in one area.
• The ability to take a business requirement and confidently explain how it should be built, the architecture, team required, timelines and delivery approach.

Consultancy, professional services and pre-sales/discovery experience are all highly valuable, but technical credibility, including demonstrable AI experience, combined with scale and strong client leadership, are the non-negotiables for this hire.
