Job summary

Collins McNicholas Group in Galway is seeking a Systems Manufacturing Technician to join its Operations Engineering team. You will work in a highly automated production environment, supporting advanced manufacturing systems and CI initiatives.

The role focuses on troubleshooting high-speed equipment, PLC programming, robotics, data capture, and ensuring traceability. The ideal candidate has 2–4+ years in automation, strong electrical knowledge, and good communication to collaborate across shifts.

Qualifications

  • 2–4+ years in Automation or similar technical role.
  • Strong PLC programming and troubleshooting capabilities.
  • Experience with automated production equipment and industrial control systems.
  • Knowledge of Ethernet and serial communication protocols.
  • Familiarity with HMI, PLCs, Remote I/O networks and robotics.
  • Solid understanding of electrical systems and circuits.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot and support high-speed automated assembly equipment.
  • Maintain and enhance PLC programs to improve machine performance.
  • Diagnose and replace faulty electrical and automation components.
  • Perform robot calibration, maintenance and programming support.
  • Install, configure and maintain barcode systems.
  • Ensure product traceability and data capture throughout production.
  • Provide third-level technical support for manufacturing issues.
  • Support CI projects through software and code upgrades.
  • Document technical issues and resolutions in centralized systems.
  • Assist with LAN/network installation and maintenance.
  • Support operations to achieve performance targets.

Job description

An established global manufacturing organization is seeking a skilled and motivated Systems Manufacturing Technician to join its Operations Engineering team in Galway. This role offers the opportunity to work in a highly automated, technology-driven production environment, supporting advanced manufacturing systems and continuous improvement initiatives.

Key Responsibilities
  • Troubleshoot and support high-speed automated assembly equipment.
  • Maintain and enhance PLC programs to improve machine performance.
  • Diagnose and replace faulty electrical and automation components.
  • Perform robot calibration, maintenance, and programming support.
  • Install, configure, and maintain barcode scanning systems.
  • Ensure accurate product traceability and data capture throughout production processes.
  • Provide third-level technical support for complex manufacturing issues.
  • Support continuous improvement projects through software and code upgrades.
  • Document technical issues and resolutions within centralized systems.
  • Assist in the installation, configuration, and maintenance of computer networks, including LAN and related infrastructure.
  • Proactively support manufacturing operations to achieve performance and efficiency targets.
Skills & Experience Required
  • 2 to 4+ years' experience in Automation, Manufacturing Systems, or a similar technical role.
  • Strong PLC programming and troubleshooting capabilities.
  • Experience with automated production equipment and industrial control systems.
  • Knowledge of Ethernet and serial communication protocols.
  • Familiarity with HMI systems, PLCs, Remote I/O networks, and robotics.
  • Strong understanding of electrical systems, AC/DC circuits, and electrical schematics.
  • Experience supporting hardware and software systems in automated manufacturing environments.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Good understanding of risk assessment methodologies.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Desirable Technical Knowledge
  • Allen Bradley PLC-5, SLC500, and ControlLogix platforms.
  • Servo control systems and associated programming.
  • Vision and camera inspection systems.
  • PC hardware, software, and LAN topology.
  • Industrial automation and control systems.
Qualifications
  • Level 6 Certificate, Diploma, Senior Trade Qualification in Electrical, Automation, Electronic Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Equivalent technical qualifications and relevant industry experience will also be considered.
