Job summary

Red Hat's Sustaining Engineering team in Waterford is seeking a motivated Intern focused on Red Hat Enterprise Linux to work on kernel backports, security fixes, and test environments. This paid, full-time internship offers flexible hours and starts January 2027 at the Waterford office.

You will gain hands-on experience with release processes and open-source collaboration, while developing your skills in Linux, C/C++, Bash or Python, and Git within a supportive global team.

Qualifications

• Must be enrolled in an accredited Irish university program for Jan–Aug 2027.
• Good written and spoken English.
• Interest in open-source software and development.

Responsibilities

• Work on Red Hat Enterprise Linux security vulnerabilities and bugs in stable streams.
• Backport selected security and bug fixes into stable release streams and track upstream patches.
• Configure or backport tests, set up test environments, run tests and verify fixes.
• Help develop tests and test framework, and support integration efforts of the test environment.
• Troubleshoot issues and collaborate with the engineering team to resolve them.
• Collaborate with product engineering, quality engineering, program management, release engineering, and product security to deliver updates timely and with quality.
