Job summary

Red Hat is seeking a motivated Intern for the Sustaining Engineering team in Waterford, Ireland. You’ll work on critical fixes for Userspace components in stable streams and learn backporting, testing, and release processes for Red Hat Enterprise Linux.

From January 2027, this paid, full-time internship offers flexible hours. You will backport security fixes, configure tests, and collaborate with product, quality, release, and engineering teams to deliver updates on schedule.

Qualifications

• Enrolled in an accredited university program in Ireland during the full duration of the internship.
• Interest in open source software and development.
• Basic knowledge of Linux and programming languages (C, C++, Python, Go).
• Familiarity with scripting using Bash or Python.
• Understanding of Git operations (cherry-picking, merging, rebasing).
• Ability to collaborate with a global team and learn new technologies.

Responsibilities

• Work on Red Hat Enterprise Linux security vulnerabilities and bugs in stable streams.
• Backport selected fixes into stable release streams and help track upstream patches.
• Configure or backport tests, set up test environments, run tests, verify fixes.
• Help develop tests and test framework for reliability.
• Assist with integration efforts of the test environment.
• Troubleshoot issues and collaborate with the engineering team to resolve them.
• Participate in internal and cross-functional automation and efficiency projects.
