Job summary

Red Hat, Inc. in Waterford is seeking an intern to work on Red Hat Enterprise Linux security vulnerabilities and bugs, focusing on backporting fixes into stable streams and verifying changes in test environments.

You will collaborate with engineers across product, quality, and release teams, gaining insight into open source development, lifecycle, and enterprise-grade release processes during a paid, full-time internship from January 2027 to August 2027.

Qualifications

• Enrolled in an accredited university program in the Republic of Ireland for the full duration of the internship.
• Interest in open source software and development.
• Basic knowledge of Linux and programming languages (C, C++, Python, Go).
• Familiarity with scripting using Bash or Python and Git version control.

Responsibilities

• Work on Red Hat Enterprise Linux security vulnerabilities and bugs in stable streams.
• Backport selected fixes into stable release streams and track upstream patches.
• Configure or backport tests, set up test environment, run tests and verify fixes.
• Help develop tests and test framework, and assist with integration efforts.
• Troubleshoot issues and collaborate with the engineering team to resolve them.
