Job summary

Job Details

Job Title: Support Worker

Shifts Available: 16 hours per week between 8.30 am to 4.30 pm from Monday to Sunday

Reporting Relationship: This post will report to the Disability Coordinator

Vetting: All applicants will be subject to reference checks, Garda Vetting and a request to provide security clearance from any country in which they resided for more than 6 months after their 16th birthday.

Candidate Requirements

Permissions: Permission to work in Ireland. Full clean driver’s license (B category).

Education: For Support Worker roles a minimum of a QQI Level 5 major award (8 components/modules) in Health or Social Care or equivalent is required, or a commitment to complete the major award if some components are already completed.

Advantage: One year of experience in a Healthcare or Social Care setting. Experience/knowledge of report writing and client support plans.

Skills & Experience
  • The ability to support the client group in a respectful way, with the client’s goals at the centre of every task.
  • Understanding of how to prevent and manage challenging behaviour.
  • Ability to work on own initiative and as part of a team.
  • Comfortable using information technology and producing reports.
Main Duties / Responsibilities
  • Support service users with a physical disability
  • Experience in homecare and personal care
  • Support for service users who use a hoist and require personal care
  • Practice safe driving habits
  • Maintain company vehicles in good working order with attention to hygiene and presentation
  • Notify support team when items or services are needed for the vehicle
  • Help service users understand their environment, learn new skills and maximise independence
  • Assist individuals with daily living activities
  • Support individuals to live a meaningful life with equal citizenship
  • Facilitate service users to participate and integrate into the community
  • Act as an advocate for service users
  • Promote participation of service users in the formulation and execution of their care/placement plan
  • Accompany service users to appointments and events as required
  • Assist service users with reduced mobility
  • Undertake duties as assigned to support care of service users
  • Manage challenging behaviours using a positive behaviour support plan
  • Provide reports on client activities to management
  • Attend staff meetings and contribute to the progression/implementation of the care plan
