Overview

Purpose of Role: Aftercare services support work that builds on and supports the work already undertaken by foster carers, social workers and residential workers in preparing young people for adulthood. Everyone has a key role in preparing young people to reach their developmental milestones. Vacancies exist in aftercare, transitional care and outreach work with young people/vulnerable adults in the community, living independently or in family/foster care setting.

The Company: Barróg Healthcare is a small private health and social care company based in Dublin with services nationwide, providing residential care and day packages to enable people who need support across mental health, disability, aftercare, transitional and mainstream social care. Position Details

Job Title: Social Care Worker

Job Type: Full time, 6 months contract

Salary: €19 hourly

Working Hours: 12-hour day shifts (10am to 10pm) and 24-hour shifts (10am to next day 10am). Flexibility for shift work may be required due to the 24/7 nature of the role.

Reporting Relationship: This post will report to the Aftercare Coordinator.

Vetting: All applicants will be subject to reference checks, Garda Vetting and a request to provide security clearance from any country in which they resided for more than 6 months after their 16th birthday.

Qualifications

• Two years of experience in a healthcare or disability support setting
• For Social Care Worker role a minimum of a B.A. in Social Care, QQI Level 7, PLUS registration as a Social Care Worker with CORU
• All applicants must be CORU registered or have their application in process
• All applicants must hold one of the following qualifications:
• National Diploma in Childcare (QQI)
• National Diploma in Applied Social Care Studies (QQI)
• Diploma in Social Care (QQI)
• Diploma in Applied Social Studies / Social Care (DIT)
• BA (Ordinary Degree) in Social Care Practice (Level 7 QQI)
• Open Training College National Diploma in Applied Social Studies (Disability)
• Equivalent qualification recognised by relevant regulatory bodies

Advantage

Responsibilities

• Support the development and implementation of care/placement plans and ensure appropriate recording
• Promote the rights and responsibilities of each child/service user or vulnerable adult
• Encourage attendance at school, training centres, medical and clinical appointments
• Liaise with parents, family, general services, and other agencies on behalf of the service user
• Link in and take direction from the Management Team
• Implement Barróg Healthcare’s policies and procedures
• Work as a member of a team
• Prepare and provide well‑balanced meals of high quality in conjunction with the client
• Undertake various aspects of home management including household budget, upkeep and cleaning
• Attend staff meetings and contribute constructively to ongoing progression of the care plan
• Attend team meetings and report to the Service Manager/Team Leader on matters affecting delivery of service
• Be accountable for any money spent on behalf of B.H.C. during duty
• Make written and verbal reports to the relevant Manager on the progress and development of the client
• Report and record any incidents, however minor, that may happen to the client or are caused by them
• Be familiar with emergency procedures and know whom to contact in an emergency
• Keep abreast of current legislation and professional childcare knowledge
• Undertake ongoing professional training and development
• Attend regular supervision
• Prepare reports for and participate in professional meetings including case conferences and strategy meetings, ensuring all records are maintained to a high standard under direction of the Management Team
• Perform any other duties that may be assigned from time to time
