Job summary

Hollybank Trustees Ltd in Kilkenny, Ireland, is seeking a Support Worker to help individuals engage in meaningful day activities, providing person-centred support that respects dignity, choices and goals.

You will be a key worker, delivering planned activities, promoting independence and community participation, while safeguarding and regulatory standards are followed. CORU registration is essential; QQI Level 7/8 in Social Care (or equivalent) is required.

Qualifications

  • CORU registration as a Social Care Worker (essential).
  • QQI Level 7/8 in Social Care or a related discipline (or equivalent leading to CORU registration).
  • Experience with intellectual disabilities and/or autism is desirable.
  • Knowledge of New Directions, Health Act 2007, HIQA and National Standards.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver high-quality, person-centred care and support in line with individual goals and abilities.
  • Act as a key worker, supporting the development and review of individual plans.
  • Assist in delivering meaningful day service activities, including education and social opportunities.
  • Promote independence and community participation.
  • Communicate effectively in an accessible, meaningful way.
  • Maintain records and complete reports; participate in training and development.

Annual Salary range:from € 34,566.00 to € 49,897.00

Purpose

As a Support Worker, you will play an important role in supporting individuals to engage in meaningful and fulfilling day activities. Working as part of a supportive team, you will provide person-centred support that respects each individuals dignity, choices and goals.

You will have the opportunity to make a positive difference each day – supporting individuals to build confidence, develop life skills and actively participate in their community, in line with New Directions principles.

Linked to HSE Consolidated Pay Scale: Supervisor/Instructor (Specialist Agency) (February 2026)

Hours:

37.5 hours per week (Monday to Friday)

Key Responsibilities:
  • Deliver high-quality, person-centred care and support in line with individual’s goals, preferences and abilities.
  • Act as a key worker, supporting the development, implementation and review of individual plans and programmes.
  • Assist in the delivery of meaningful day service activities, including education, training and social opportunities.
  • Promote independence, autonomy and skill development, supporting individuals to make informed choices.
  • Encourage and support community participation, including access to new experiences and opportunities.
  • Communicate effectively with individuals in a way that is accessible and meaningful to them.
  • Support individuals in practical tasks associated with day programmes and activities.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues, families and external professionals to ensure consistent, high-quality support.
  • Contribute to a culture of safety and wellbeing, following organisational policies and risk management procedures.
  • Maintain accurate records and complete reports as required.Participate in training, development, and continuous learning.
  • Promote a safe and respectful environment, responding appropriately to any safeguarding concerns.
Qualifications:
  • CORU registration as a Social Care Worker (essential).
  • QQI Level 7/8 in Social Care or a related discipline (or equivalent leading to CORU registration).
Experience:
  • Experience working with individuals with intellectual disabilities and/or autism is desirable.
  • Experience delivering positive behaviour support and low arousal approaches is an advantage.
Knowledge & Skills:
  • Understanding of New Directions, Health Act 2007, HIQA, National Standards and other regulatory requirements.
  • Awareness of key worker role and philosophy of supporting people with intellectual disabilities.
  • Strong understanding of person-centred and human rights based approaches.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to use initiative, problem-solve, and work independently.
  • Commitment to continuous professional development.
  • Good organisational and IT skills.
Additional Requirements:
  • Full, clean Irish driving license.
