Job summary

Jacobs in Ireland seeks an experienced Structural Engineer to advance industrial and manufacturing projects. You will lead design activities, coordinate across disciplines, and ensure designs meet applicable codes and standards.

The role emphasizes leadership, communication, and technical proficiency with steel, concrete and masonry structures. Applicants should have a related Honours degree and 5+ years of structural design experience, with chartership progress welcomed.

Qualifications

  • Hons. Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (FETAC Level 8 minimum).
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in Structural Engineering Design.
  • Chartered Structural Engineer or working towards chartership.
  • Good knowledge of Irish Standards, Eurocode, and International Codes.
  • Experienced in the use of structural design software.

Responsibilities

  • Organize and delegate engineering tasks to produce construction documents.
  • Manage scope, budget and schedule to meet project goals.
  • Coordinate with mechanical, civil, architectural and process disciplines.
  • Lead plant design activities as area/system leader with multi-discipline designers.
  • Demonstrate strong communication in a fast-paced, deadline-driven team.
  • Design structures in steel, concrete and masonry per BS, EN and international codes.
  • Use design software and support with hand calculations.
  • Liaise with REVIT & CAD technicians for quality deliverables.
  • Develop plans and alternatives with teams to ensure quality.
  • Perform field observations of construction activities.
  • Review submittals for conformance with design documents.

Responsibilities
  • Organize, assign, and delegate necessary engineering and design tasks to produce construction documents in conjunction with a team of engineers and designers.
  • Manage scope, budget and schedule to meet project goals.
  • Coordinate and collaborate in real time with other disciplines such as mechanical, civil, architectural and process to develop designs.
  • Independently lead plant design activities as an area/system leader and coordinate with multi‑discipline designers.
  • Display strong communication and interpersonal skills and can work in a fast‑paced team environment with multiple deadlines.
  • Responsible for detailed design of structures in steel, concrete and masonry in accordance with BS, EN and international codes.
  • Use a wide range of design software, backed up by hand calculation.
  • Liaison with REVIT & CAD technicians to produce quality design deliverables.
  • Exercise judgment in developing plans or alternatives and work with teams to assure quality plans.
  • Perform field activities such as observation of construction activities.
  • Review construction submittals for conformance with the intent of contract and design documents.
Required Qualifications
  • Hons. Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (FETAC Level 8 minimum).
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in Structural Engineering Design.
  • More experienced Engineers are welcome to apply.
  • Chartered Structural Engineer or working towards chartership.
  • Good knowledge of the codes of practice – Irish Standards, Eurocode, and International Codes (US and India codes are a bonus).
  • Experienced in the use of structural design software.
Preferred Requirements
  • Strong relevant engineering/design experience in industrial/advanced technology sector or large‑scale industrial.
  • Design experience in reinforced concrete, steelwork, masonry, foundation design.
  • Proactive approach to solving problems with an ability to adapt to changing scenarios.
  • Excellent English level – written and spoken.
  • Ability to interact with other engineering disciplines, clients and vendors at all levels.
