Strategic Engagement Officer - Appeals Centre Europe
Location:
- Dublin (hybrid) or Brussels (fully remote)
The Appeals Centre Europe’s (ACE) vision is the creation of an online environment in the European Union (EU) that protects freedom of expression and human rights through the empowerment of people and communities who use online social media platforms.
To achieve this, the Appeal Centre independently and impartially resolves disputes raised by people and communities in the EU about the application of content standards by social media platforms.
Reporting to the Director of Communications and Marketing, and with a dotted line to the Public Affairs Lead, the Strategic Engagement Officer will play a key role in managing ACE’s relationships with a range of external stakeholders and ensuring the organisation is represented at key events around Europe.
Responsibilities:
- Work with colleagues in the Communications and Marketing Team to build strong relationships with external stakeholders across the EU, including:
- Preparing presentations about the Appeals Centre’s work to various audiences, including
civil society organisations.
- Participating in discussions with regulators, platforms and the Network of Out-of-court Dispute Settlement bodies (ODS Network).
- Acting as a contact point for external stakeholders, following up with clear and concise written communications.
- Ensure that ACE is represented at key events and conferences across Europe related to content moderation and the Digital Services Act:
- Research events and conferences which might be relevant to ACE.
- Work with ACE colleagues and external stakeholders to organise events and panel discussions to profile ACE’s work.
- Produce speaker briefings and other preparatory materials.
- Support the Communications and Marketing Team with other tasks as required.
Experience:
- At least two years’ experience of managing external stakeholders (ideally at a European or global level).
- Experience of organising events, such as panel discussions or workshops. This includes event concepts, identifying and liaising speakers, drafting external communications about the event.
- Experience of working with membership bodies, civil society organisations, regulators or social media platforms would be a plus.
Skills and profile:
- You enjoy networking and thinking creatively about how to raise the profile of a new organisation.
- You want to be part of a driven, international team that adapts to the needs of a start-up.
- You’re an excellent written and verbal communicator and can hit the right tone with different audiences. You’re comfortable presenting to groups of people.
- You can manage multiple projects and deadlines at the same time and keep a clear head when things get busy.
- Fluency in French or Italian would be a plus.
