Job summary

Toast is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to help build autonomous AI agents for the Team area in our Fintech line. You will design, develop, and deliver agent-driven features that help restaurants manage staff more effectively.

Qualifications

• Strong foundation in Java, Kotlin or other OO languages.
• Experience with modern web standards and technologies (React, TypeScript, REST, GraphQL).
• Interest in using coding agents and adopting agentic development practices.
• Passion for building autonomous agents and working with LLMs.
• Experience mentoring peers and collaborating across teams.

Responsibilities

• Hands-on development and shipping Team Agent products using LLMs.
• End-to-end tasks in a collaborative, supportive team environment.
• Partner with product managers, designers, and fellow engineers to build autonomous agents.
• Design, estimate, implement, test, and debug agent solutions.
• Adopt and advocate for bleeding-edge spec-driven development and agentic development practices.
• Mentor developers through code-pairing and detailed code reviews.
• Champion best practices for agent development, deployment, and quality life cycles.
• Actively contribute to product design discussions for the Team Agent space.
