Job description

Job Description: Solar Engineer – Design & Project Delivery

Employment Type: Full-Time

About NuSolas Energy

NuSolas Energy is a growing Irish renewable energy company specialising primarily in residential solar PV installations, with additional commercial and agricultural projects. We are looking for a technically capable, customer-focused Solar Engineer who can design solar systems, manage technical projects, resolve problems and support our installation teams.

The Role

The Solar Engineer will be responsible for the technical design, coordination and delivery of solar PV projects, from initial assessment through installation, commissioning and customer handover. The successful candidate will act as a key link between customers, sales, surveyors, project managers, electricians, roofers and suppliers.

Key Responsibilities

1. Solar Design & Technical Assessment

  • Design residential and commercial solar PV systems, including panels, inverters and battery storage.
  • Review site surveys, roof layouts, shading, electrical infrastructure and cable routes.
  • Prepare accurate system layouts, technical drawings and Bills of Materials.
  • Ensure designs are practical, safe, compliant and suitable for installation.

2. Project Coordination

  • Coordinate technical requirements from survey and design through to installation and handover.
  • Work closely with project managers, electricians and roofing teams to ensure projects are installation‑ready.
  • Identify potential problems early and ensure the correct equipment and information are available.
  • Manage multiple projects while meeting deadlines and maintaining quality standards.

3. Customer Communication

  • Explain solar systems and technical issues clearly to customers.
  • Answer technical queries and support the sales team with complex projects.
  • Handle customer concerns professionally and provide practical solutions.
  • Maintain honest, clear and timely communication throughout the project.

4. Troubleshooting & Technical Support

  • Investigate faults, poor system performance, installation issues and equipment compatibility problems.
  • Work with electricians, suppliers and manufacturers to identify root causes and implement solutions.
  • Support commissioning, technical inspections and after‑sales issues.
  • Take ownership of problems until they are resolved.

5. Compliance & Continuous Improvement

  • Maintain knowledge of relevant Irish electrical regulations, SEAI requirements and ESB Networks processes.
  • Support quality control, technical documentation and installation standards.
  • Identify recurring problems and improve company processes.
  • Keep up to date with solar PV, battery storage and renewable energy technologies.
  • Practical knowledge of solar PV systems, inverters and battery storage.
  • Experience in solar design, installation, electrical engineering or technical project delivery.
  • Understanding of residential solar installations and some commercial PV applications.
  • Strong problem‑solving and analytical skills.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Ability to coordinate projects and work effectively with different teams.
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently, make sound decisions and take responsibility for outcomes.
  • Willingness to attend customer and installation sites when required.
  • Experience with OpenSolar, PV*Sol, PVSyst, AutoCAD or similar design software.
  • Knowledge of Huawei, GoodWe, Sigenergy, Fronius or other solar equipment.
  • Experience with SEAI applications, ESB Networks processes and Safe Electric requirements.
  • Electrical, engineering, renewable energy or project management qualifications.
Personal Qualities

We are looking for someone who is ethical, hardworking, accountable, practical and solution‑oriented. The ideal candidate takes initiative, communicates proactively, works well under pressure and does not wait for others to solve problems they can resolve themselves.

We value people who take ownership of their work, admit mistakes, learn continuously and focus on getting things done correctly the first time.

What Success Looks Like

The successful candidate will deliver accurate designs, ensure projects are properly prepared for installation, resolve technical issues efficiently, maintain excellent customer communication and help NuSolas improve the quality and efficiency of its operations.

At NuSolas Energy, we are looking for someone who does more than design solar systems — we want someone who takes ownership of projects, solves problems and helps deliver an excellent customer experience.
