Job summary

Dell Technologies' Infra Solutions Group in Cork is hiring a Principal Software Engineer to lead multi-component software projects and shape the technical direction of our AI-enabled storage platforms.

You will translate business goals into actionable designs, guide AI-assisted development, and mentor engineers across teams while delivering high‑quality software for enterprise-scale storage solutions.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of related experience, preferably in distributed systems, with C, C++, Java or Python.
• Experience leading delivery of complex software projects spanning multiple components or teams.
• Ability to turn ambiguous business goals into actionable technical designs and specifications.
• Demonstrable experience guiding AI agents to deliver production-level software, evaluating correctness, maintainability and performance.
• Strong understanding of software architecture/system design.

Responsibilities

• Lead multi-component software projects through all aspects of the software development life cycle: planning, requirements analysis, design, implementation, testing, deployment, and maintenance.
• Translate broad business objectives into clear engineering plans and independently deliverable workstreams.
• Drive adoption of improved engineering workflows, reusable tools, AI-assisted development practices and quality guardrails.
• Represent the team's technical direction in discussions with architects, product teams and other engineering organizations.
• Mentor engineers within and beyond the immediate team to grow technical judgment and autonomous delivery.

Essential Requirements

• Exceptional programming skills with at least 8 years of related experience, preferably in C, C++, Java or Python, on distributed systems; strong understanding of programming fundamentals
• Demonstrated experience leading delivery of complex software projects spanning multiple components, subsystems or engineering teams
• Ability to turn ambiguous business or customer goals into actionable technical designs and specifications
• Demonstrable experience guiding AI agents to deliver production level software, evaluating it for correctness, maintainability, performance, security and quality
• Strong understanding of software architecture/system design

Desirable Requirements

• Experience with operating systems, distributed systems, networking, and storage internals
• Familiarity with storage protocols (NFS/SMB/S3)
