Job summary

Arup in Ireland seeks a Senior Water Engineer to deliver innovative water infrastructure solutions across Ireland and internationally. You will contribute to planning, design and delivery of water supply, wastewater, flood resilience and environmental outcomes.

Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and stakeholders to develop robust, sustainable solutions, lead the design process, and mentor junior team members while growing Arup's water business.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering (Level 8 in NFQ) required.
  • Chartered status with Engineers Ireland or equivalent expected.
  • Strong design skills in surface water, wastewater and water supply.
  • Experience with pipelines, water networks and pumping stations advantageous.
  • Ability to lead design from concept to construction.
  • Interest in driving digital delivery, BIM and latest industry developments.

  • Mentor junior staff in technical and commercial aspects.

As a Senior Water Engineer, you will play a key role in delivering innovative and sustainable water infrastructure solutions that help communities thrive and adapt to future challenges. Working on a diverse portfolio of projects across Ireland and internationally, you will contribute to the planning, design and delivery of projects that improve water supply, wastewater treatment, flood resilience and environmental outcomes.

You will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, clients, contractors and stakeholders to develop technically robust and sustainable solutions that address some of the most pressing challenges facing the water sector today. Leveraging your technical expertise and project experience, you will help drive excellence in project delivery while supporting the development of junior team members and contributing to the growth of our water business.

This role offers the opportunity to work on complex and impactful projects, develop your technical and leadership capabilities, and contribute to shaping the future of water infrastructure in Ireland and beyond.

As a Senior Water Engineer At Arup, You Will
  • Be aware of the Irish regulatory and planning framework, together with experience in managing civil engineering projects through the planning process.
  • Understand the suite of contracts used in public procurement in Ireland.
  • Understand design principles, materials, and specifications used in Ireland.
  • Appreciate climate adaptation and resilience principles and practices.
  • Understand the UN Sustainable Development Goals and the impact engineering can have on achieving these goals.
We're Looking For Someone With
  • A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in a Civil Engineering discipline is required for this role (equivalent to Level 8 in the Irish NFQ).
  • A Master’s degree would be beneficial but not essential.
  • Chartered status with Engineers Ireland, or equivalent, is expected.
  • Essential Skills and Knowledge:
  • Strong civil engineering technical design skills in the areas of surface water, wastewater, and water supply design.
  • Experience in pipelines, water networks and pumping stations will be an advantage.
  • Ability to technically lead and manage the design process from conceptual layout to detailed design and construction.
  • Passionate about driving digital delivery on projects and keeping appraised of latest industry developments around digital and BIM.
  • Experience with Civil 3D / Revit / OpenRoads / Microstation and other BIM software.
  • Understanding of wider engineering project requirements e.g. geotechnics, utilities, risk management etc and ability to tailor civil engineering interventions to suit wider project aspirations.
  • Experience of working in multi-disciplinary teams and client/stakeholder liaison, with proven design co‑ordination management and leadership.
  • Experience in project and commercial management to drive the delivery of projects.
  • Ability to mentor junior staff in developing their own technical and commercial expertise.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and strong numerical skills.
  • Effective planning and organisational skills.
  • An ability to multi‑task efficiently under pressure and maintain high level of attention to detail.
  • A willingness to engage and listen, to understand the needs of your clients and colleagues.
