Job description

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Voxel Artist (Stylized Games | Creative Development) based in Ireland.

As a Senior Voxel Artist, you’ll help shape distinctive game worlds by transforming simple geometric forms into expressive characters, imaginative environments, and memorable visual experiences. You’ll combine exceptional artistic craftsmanship with creative exploration to develop original visual identities and cohesive stylized worlds. Working across characters, creatures, props, and environments, you’ll establish strong silhouettes, appealing proportions, and compelling color palettes that bring each asset to life. You’ll collaborate with art directors, concept artists, environment artists, and technical artists to turn early ideas into polished, production-ready content. This hands‑on role offers significant creative ownership, the freedom to experiment with voxel aesthetics, and the opportunity to influence the artistic direction of game development projects. You’ll join an international, remote‑first team focused on quality, collaboration, and continuous creative growth.

Accountabilities
  • Create high-quality voxel characters, creatures, environments, props, and other stylized assets for game development projects.

  • Explore distinctive visual styles, proportions, silhouettes, color palettes, and geometric approaches to establish memorable artistic identities.

  • Develop creative concepts that bring personality to characters, depth to environments, and consistency to entire game worlds.

  • Translate early‑stage ideas and visual explorations into polished, production‑ready assets.

  • Establish and maintain consistent voxel art principles covering scale, proportions, geometry density, color, materials, and detail.

  • Ensure assets remain readable, expressive, and visually appealing from different viewing distances.

  • Experiment with innovative approaches that extend voxel aesthetics beyond conventional block‑based designs while preserving their distinctive appeal.

  • Balance simplicity, personality, charm, and visual storytelling to create engaging stylized content.

  • Optimize voxel assets for real‑time game development, considering technical constraints and performance requirements.

  • Collaborate with art directors, concept artists, environment artists, and technical artists to align creative vision with production needs.

  • Participate in artistic reviews, feedback sessions, and visual development discussions to continuously improve quality.

  • Contribute to reusable workflows, production guidelines, and art style standards that support efficient and consistent asset creation.

  • Proactively suggest creative ideas that strengthen the visual identity and overall quality of the project.

Requirements
  • At least 5 years of professional experience in game art, voxel art, stylized 3D art, or a closely related discipline.

  • An outstanding portfolio demonstrating high‑quality voxel art, original concepts, and strong visual design skills.

  • Excellent understanding of silhouettes, proportions, shape language, color theory, and visual composition.

  • Strong proficiency in voxel creation tools such as MagicaVoxel, Blockbench, or equivalent software.

  • Ability to create both individual assets and cohesive collections that share a distinctive and consistent artistic identity.

  • Strong artistic intuition for appealing characters, imaginative environments, memorable visual concepts, and effective visual storytelling.

  • Experience creating and optimizing assets for real‑time game engines.

  • Ability to independently explore visual concepts and transform creative ideas into production‑ready content.

  • Strong creativity, attention to detail, problem‑solving abilities, and a collaborative approach to working with multidisciplinary teams.

  • Fluency in English, with the ability to communicate creative ideas and incorporate feedback effectively.

  • Experience contributing to original game intellectual property or early‑stage visual development is an advantage.

  • Additional strengths in character design, creature design, stylized world‑building, Unity3D, Unreal Engine, procedural voxel generation, shaders, or material workflows are desirable.

  • Familiarity with pixel art, retro‑inspired aesthetics, or combining voxel art with other stylized 3D techniques is beneficial.

  • Experience developing art style guides and maintaining visual consistency across larger projects is a plus.

Benefits
