Job summary

JPMorgan Chase in Ireland is seeking a Senior Site Reliability Engineer to own and drive reliability across the service portfolio, defining SLOs and building scalable tooling.

You will lead capacity planning, implement observability patterns, and mentor engineers, while collaborating with product and platform teams to embed reliability by design. Proficiency in Python/Go/Java and cloud platforms is required.

Qualifications

• Formal training or certification on software engineering concepts and advanced applied experience.
• Proven experience as a software engineer, including proficiency in Python, Go, or Java.
• Demonstrated experience operating and improving production systems in an SRE capacity.
• Strong distributed-systems debugging and troubleshooting skills across services, infrastructure, and delivery pipelines.
• Experience with Kubernetes and cloud computing services.
• Familiarity with observability toolchains (Grafana, Prometheus, Elasticsearch, Kibana, Jaeger).
• Proven ability to lead technically by setting direction and improving engineering standards.
• Strong communication skills to influence stakeholders and translate risk into priorities.

Responsibilities

• Own and drive continuous improvement of reliability, monitoring, and alerting across the service portfolio.
• Define and operationalise SLIs, SLOs, error budgets, user journeys, and reliability scorecards.
• Reduce operational toil by building automation, self-healing mechanisms, and scalable tooling.
• Lead performance engineering and capacity planning, including load testing strategy and bottleneck analysis.
• Establish resiliency patterns such as timeouts, retries, circuit breakers, rate limiting, and failover strategies.
• Set technical direction for observability, alerting, automation, and SRE practices.
• Provide hands-on implementation for high-impact work while growing team capability.
• Partner with product, engineering, and platform teams to align reliability with roadmaps.
• Mentor SREs with technical guidance and development support.
• Build practical AI capability within the team with guardrails and safe usage patterns.
