Qualifications

Senior Software Engineer - Sensors / Android

Our client, a leading semiconductor and sensor technology company, is looking for a hands-on Android engineer to join their Sensors Technologies group. This role goes beyond application-layer development, working across a wide range of devices from stable commercial hardware to internal and customer prototypes, and requiring comfort close to the Android platform.

What you will be doing

• Developing enterprise/work-profile Android applications, distributed via internal app stores, that integrate with a range of platforms including Wear OS and XR devices
• Integrating applications with backend services such as Azure and SharePoint
• Designing, implementing, and testing cross-platform desktop tools (Windows and Linux) that interact with Android devices for data collection and demonstration purposes
• Developing Java-based software components following industry-standard design patterns and deployment models
• Working across prototype and reference platforms spanning mobile devices, wearables, and smart glasses
• Debugging and isolating issues across both the application and platform layers, particularly on less stable prototype hardware
• Collaborating with global, cross-functional teams to support development and commercialisation of sensor algorithms and features
• Contributing to end-to-end data processing pipelines, including monitoring, troubleshooting, and optimising workflows in production
• Supporting internal data collection campaigns, including hands-on field participation and resolving device-level issues
• Supporting sensor feature commercialisation, including algorithm validation, customer data analysis, and direct customer triage

What we are looking for

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field
• 2+ years of hands‑on Android application development using the Android SDK
• Strong object‑oriented programming skills in Java or Kotlin, with a track record of delivering production‑quality software
• Proficiency in C++ and Python for system‑level tools and applications
• Comfort working close to the Android platform, including integration with vendor‑specific components such as HALs or native services
• Experience with Linux or system‑level Android concepts is highly desirable
• Fluency with Git and GitHub
• Strong debugging skills and the ability to isolate issues across application and platform layers
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with strong written and verbal English
• Detail‑oriented, organised, and comfortable working across multiple stakeholders in a fast‑paced global team

Nice to have

• Master's degree in a related engineering or computer science field
• Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP
• Familiarity with enterprise deployment/device management concepts (Android Enterprise, MDM/MAM, Intune)
• Previous experience with React Native
• Ability to work effectively across Linux and Windows environments
• Previous experience with Android Wear / Wear OS and Android X
